Essex v Leicestershire

I was about to post to say how well Leicestershire were batting in the first innings of their current championship match.

But I've just looked at the score again and they've collapsed from 359-4 to 365 all out. Eckersley made 147.

That is an impressive collapse, even by LCCC standards.

I think we've had 4 good days in the championship all season. If we could find a way to combine them into one match we may actually win one some day.

It's going to be a long hot day in the field 346-4 at lunch

Essex got over 500 and we are now 3 down. Awful.

Good county pros like O'Brien and Ireland, and our overseas players, who are supposed to give our youngsters some experienced backing can't take wickets or score runs.

As Redditch says, something has to be done. We've been the worst county in the 4 day game for years now.

Thanks glyn but if you have no chance of taking 20 wickets in a game then its difficult to contrive wins.

One footnote - on Test Match Special they were talking about the stars of yesteryear attending the current Test. Amongst these was mentioned "The Hoggster". It did occur to me that if Leics were a properly managed professional club that Hoggard migtht just be either playing (unlikely) or supporting/ advising our pace attack.

Basically almost everything is wrong at Grace Road - and by doing nothing we are playing a dangerous game and risking our continued First Class status. The problem is that those leading the club off the field are about as inept as the coaches/ playing staff.

Shiv gone already and with Boyce injured yesterday and not able to field, this will be over by lunchtime.

Wickets taken by County in the CC matches this season: 7, 12, 11, 8, 18, 9, 3, 7, 16 and 10 in this one

Not even competitive.

Freckingham and Naik are the only bowlers who have taken any decent amount of wickets, and Freckingham's have dried up, understandably given it is his first season.

Usual end of season changes will happen now, throw a couple of youngsters in (Robson?) and sign a couple of out of contract players. Then get a couple of decent results which acts as a false dawn for next April.

Another month or so and the non-retained list will start to filter out. Not easy this year because we're turning out teams with a whole bunch of 'fringe' players. Of course losing Sarwan to international duty for most of the season hasn't helped - and I don't want to uncharacteristically cruel but given that the Aussies have virtually no batters -how good is Burns if he can't even make their current A team squad touring South Africa?

However, I don't think you need to worry about people viewing any false dawns for April 2014. There would need to be root and branch structural changes at the club before that occurs.

I've given up.It takes a very special sort of ineptitude to go from 359-4 first knock to an innings defeat.

Low point of another abysmal season.
