I've worked out what xG stands for. Xtremely gash.

Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool are the top three in xG this season.

Leicester are 14th. Southampton have a higher xG than we do.

Meanwhile, we have the 4th best defence after Man Utd, Liverpool and Everton.
****ing wib ****ing ble. Too much time on too many hands.

So it’s largely correct, yes? 3 of the top 4 is correct.

We are an obvious outlier. Not for the first time.

Not dying on the hill, like, but there is a counter argument.

It’s not based on anything though. Other than some nerd grading the quality of chances. Even then it doesn’t even seem to factor in who the chance falls to.

I can’t believe so much credibility is being given, by some, to something so flawed. You could probably take a basic factual metric, like shots on target and it would be as accurate. At least then it would be borne out of fact, rather than opinion, even though it still would be flawed.

No. It is largely incorrect. It's only correct in predicting 2 of the top 3. I could have done that without any such bollocks.

Two free kicks spring to mind:

1) Robert Huth’s tremendous feck up a few years ago.

2) Maddison against Southampton a couple of weeks ago.

Very similar positions, with very different people taking them. Their xG would be about the same, as the situation was not far off identical and, yet, they yielded very different results. Isn’t that strange? How could that possible be? Could it maybe have something to do with who the chance falls to?

That article actually highlights the flaws within it. Everton’s attackers score closer to their xG than their midfielders and, even more so, their defenders. Who’d have thought that eh? xG takes no account for goalkeeping errors, who’d have thought that may affect whether a goal is scored?

The article doesn’t make the case for xG, it does quite the opposite, whatever it’s intentions were.
