It's on my list. Along with the other 203 Wainwrights I've not done yet...

But I'm saving the bigger ones until I'm a bit fitter.

I climbed Skiddaw when I was 12. It's a pretty easy climb, albeit a bit of a slog. How unfit are you exactly?

To be honest, Skiddaw ain't that great. Some of my faves are Blencathra, Great Gable, Haystacks, Allen Crags, and the lovely little Catbells. Helvellyn is also a good one.

I could have climbed it when I was 12. I'm 55 now and haven't done any regular exercise for 20 years, until recently. I'm sure I could manage Skiddaw, Blencathra etc today, but I'm working my way up gradually. Plenty of smaller hills to start with.

Skiddaw is absolutely excellent as long as you don't go up from Keswick which is a boring scree slope.

Do yourself a favour Jeff and go up Ullock Pike and Carl side from Bassenthwaite, it's a fantastic way up.

If you don't mind a good 9 miler go down via Bakestall (steep) to dash falls and back to bassenthwaite and a pint in the sun inn.

I presume I went up from Keswick so that's some good insight Lako42. And fair enough Webbo, I forget how much energy one must possess aged 12.
