Leicester City Football Club is pleased to confirm the transfer of midfielder Harry Winks from Tottenham Hotspur on a three-year-deal, subject to EFL approval.

The 27-year-old, who is a product of Tottenham’s youth system, spent the 2022/23 campaign on loan at Italian side Sampdoria, playing 20 times in Serie A and has made 10 appearances for England.

In total, the midfielder made more than 200 appearances for Tottenham since his debut in 2016 and adds important strength, experience and quality to the Club’s midfield ranks ahead of the new 2023/24 campaign.

Speaking to LCFC TV, he said: “I’m delighted. I’m really excited for the challenge ahead. It’s an amazing club with great history and the facilities are incredible. I’m just so happy to be here and ready to get going.

“I’m looking forward to getting started, to have a full pre-season with the team and come here early to get ready for the games coming up. It’s going to be an important few weeks to get everyone ready and to push myself getting fit.

“I’m also looking forward to a new challenge and to challenge myself. Coming to a club like Leicester is the perfect chance to do that.”

After progressing through Tottenham’s academy, Winks made his senior debut for the club in a UEFA Europa League clash against FK Partizan in November 2014.

He then made his Premier League debut at home to Liverpool in August 2016 before going on to play a further 32 times in all competitions in 2016/17.

His development continued the following season, featuring in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League, with his performances earning him his senior England debut against Lithuania in October 2017.

He later helped Tottenham to the final of the UEFA Champions League in June 2019, starting in the final of the competition against Liverpool in Madrid.

Last season, he joined Sampdoria on loan, featuring on 20 occasions in the Italian top-flight.

Internationally, Winks has represented England up to senior level, earning 10 caps for the Three Lions and scoring his first goal against Kosovo in November 2019.

He will now join his new teammates in preparation for the Sky Bet Championship campaign, which begins against Coventry City on Sunday 6 August (12pm kick-off).

Squad number 40….

Not according to the club's Twitter account.

Also clearly did this earlier in the week, or we haven't had time to change the training kits yet... Crossed arms not quite covering it. Oops

Coady and Winks would make pretty good additions for a fair few Premier League clubs IMO so got to be happy with these signings. Both at a bit of a low ebb and needing to turn their careers around but have demonstrated excellent quality at the top level in the past - a bit like our club in general.

British dear chap British. Remember Bodie and Doyle?

So, why has a 28-year-old who's made ten appearances for England and 128 in the Premier League dropped down to the Championship?

And he has played in the Italian league, may speak some Italian, and may get on well with our new manager.

Or something else.

Bit harsh that, but probably some truth in it
He has been very good-ish. Possibly, once or twice.
We have a couple of other players like that - He'll fit in.
