How's the squad shaping up?

We’ve been here before

Poor recruitment, unbalanced squad, players looking to leave or run down their contract, poor preseason programme, complacency everywhere you look, key central defender injured in a preseason friendly

It all stinks

We looked horribly unfit last season and that was when we played with tonnes of possession and 75 passes between central defenders. With the quantity and physicality of games in the championship, it's going to be very hard if we're not fit enough.

If the pre-season was just about sport, we'd be playing two friendlies a week against the likes of Shepshed Dynamo, Quorn and Hinkley Utd. But the stupidity of modern football means we'll probably be unprepared for our actual, opening competitive league game for the sake of our commercial obligations in the Far East. It's such a ridiculous situation.

I'd not fret too much. Next to no one is 'ready'. I read Mark Robbins saying the same of Cov. Pre-season now extends into the first 3 or 4 games of the season, and has done for some time. I remember Wenger saying something like it towards the end of his Arsenal time.

A smart team might look to be ready from the off (those early points might well keep you up!) but it seemingly doesn't work like that in practice. Truth is, many/most teams seem to think you can recover from a false start.

I think it’s more a comment on the difficulty of playing in high humidity. It’s a good thing. It should actually improve everyone’s general fitness to train in tougher conditions. In theory they should find it easier when they return back here (when they get over the jet lag)

So at the moment (leaving out people I’m not bothered about) we have (and don’t **** with me on spellings - I can’t be arsed to check):-

Hermansen - very highly rated
Iversen- more than capable at this level
Ricardo - if fit possibly the best player in the league
Justin - more than capable and one of the better players in the league
Coady - Highly rated
Doyle - Highly rated and part of a charge for promotion with Coventry last year
Souttar - more than capable and also probably one of the better players in the league
Kristiensen - likely to be one of the better players in the league
Thomas - likely to be one of the better players in the league

Winks - possibly the best midfielder in the league
Dewsbury Hall - easily one of the better players in the league
Ndidi - lost his way under Rodgers but in form he was arguably the best midfield destroyer in the country. Could still be.
Albrighton - could still do a job
Hamza - experienced at this level.

Vardy - even at his age possibly the best forward in the league
Nacho - possibly the best forward in the league
Daka - At a lower level could be deadly

Why are we shitting ouselves again?

We’re winning this.
