Laptop Advice

I'm looking to buy a laptop and was wondering if anybody could give me some idea about ideal minimum specs...in layman's, please? :icon_wink
I would only use it for the internet and transferring music to my iPod, so nothing too flashy. I've got £500 to spend.

£500 will be ample for what you want to do. Try and get something with a largeish harddrive if you are saving lots of music, 80gb and over really. Other than that it shouldnt matter too much, just get the best spec you can for your money. Try Dell.

Generally speaking yes Try and get at least 512mb RAM

i dont mind! however dont know i can tell you! is there a button you can press that tells you?

C drive has 40GB i think if that helps

Thanks. Clear as mud, but I think I've established that it's only got half of what DF was telling me to get. I think Dell is the way to go, though.

with dell ensure you dont take thier improved warranty which they add on automatically, costs about £70 extra - unless you want it of course.

Dont get one with a celeron processor, we just got a nice Acer laptop for one on our engineers. It was about £440 inc VAT. We got it from Misco. I was pretty impressed with it.

my girlfriend's just got a very good deal on the one she got for her birthday.

It's an acer with 1028 ram, 100gb hard drive, nuilt in camera, 3G, the other techie stuff was aparantly decent (housemate is IT Boffin, he found it)

not sure where it was from though so i'm not exactloy much help....... she paid £499
