Anyone know of any problems with the latest updates?

I have been running them as usual and then when i logged on tonight it was like running windows for the first time (green hill and everything). Most of my programs (but weirdly not all) had disappeared off the desktop and menu and when i tried to log in to my email it said I needed to configure Outlook as i had never used it before!!

Restored to yesterdau and everything is back to normal. Just wondered if anyone else had had this problem?

Had it created a new account?

Was going to ask exactly this.

Checking this would be where I'd start.

If not, do MS give you the ability to 'rollback'... fairly easily?

No new account I logged in as me.

Yes there is a restore point function which i used to go back a day and everything came back. Im now avoiding installing that particular update until such time that I can spend sometime to see if it happens again.

me neither but an update a while ago came with a bastard virus which doubled up all my folders and left my hard drive with 1mb of space ive since turned automatic update of and install updates myself from a trusted vendor.

Windows updates, automatic or otherwise, only come from Microsoft, presumably a 'trusted vendor', and don't contain any viruses.

So whatever it was that caused the problem you've described, it wasn't because of automatic updates.

Just brought the laptop up-to-date (it runs XP) and no problems here. :)
