We got over £100 million last season.
Other income such as sponsorship will also be reduced after relegation.
So it depends on how much we've reduced our spending, and what we've made by selling players.
We don't get the fee all at once, it's spread over several years.

Took out loans secured against the future transfer fee instalments. Presumably that won't count as football income as far as FFP is concerned.

Surely it would be recognised as profit on disposals in the year the player registration was transferred? It wouldn’t be anything to do with the actual cash flow.
Ianaa, but yes, it looks like the whole of the fee counts immediately as far as ffp is concerned when you sell a player.
So, would this, in theory, be correct...
If you wanted to get out of an current ffp problem (potentially only putting it off for a few years), you could sell your star player for £50 million and have that included in this year's income. Then immediately buy him back for the same fee, but put him the accounts at £10 million a year for five years...

Presumably re-signing said player to a new contract that ends in five years and recalculating your amortisation expense would have the same effect without making him move house for ten seconds.

Yeah. Would be better off selling them for more than you buy them back for too. I'm sure certain clubs will be all over that soon enough.

It’s a good thing some of them Saudi clubs have got loads of money to spunk on players too shite or old to play anywhere else. Imagine what they could do if anyone attended their games.

Incredible that both times we've upset the natural order of football (2016 & 2021) our immediate response was to celebrate by buying some absolute shite for decent sums. Not being able to sell Tielemans obviously ****ed up our wasting money plan of 2021 as it was funds we didn't have. Last season's mid season splurge on a load of pointless shit tops it all though.

I saw some analysis the other day about the wage offers we made for players compared to other PL clubs. It showed how ridiculous we increased salaries compared to their proven ability at the time. Something like an average of 1200%.
The clubs that do well with that sort of transfer make sure that wages offered are performance based. If you do well, you'll do well. We just hand over vast sums and expect these players to just take it in their stride.
The impact on someone like Soumare at the age of 22 moving from his home country for the first time with a ten fold pay rise is often ignored. What would you be like at 22, not speaking the language, moving to another country and going from £9k a week to £90k? I'd have been a mess.
What Steve Walsh did really well in his time at the club was choosing characters that would integrate properly and then actively doing whatever it took when they joined us to help them to adapt to being here. It's a massively underestimated part of a transfer.
Some of those we signed in the summer of 2016 were actually Walsh recommendations. Where we went tragically wrong was paying more in transfer fees than he'd said we should, paying more in wages than he said we should and then doing feck all to help them integrate. We've still not learned that lesson.
It's why I'm less quick to turn of the likes of Soumare and Daka than many on here. They would have to be exceptional characters to make it given the circumstances. We've ****ed many a career by being utterly useless at recruitment.
