Recovered a little from a dismal start. We were 7-3 (Palladino Hat-Trick), now 67-4.

At least rain is due this week.

No point commenting any more, is there. Groundhog day. See earlier posts concerning dismal batting.

No bonus points again the likely outcome.

Leicestershire rarely bat well first in 4 day cricket in recent years. Hoggard needs to go as captain - what idiot would send batsman into bat when it is overcast and humid and why the hell is Buck playing instead of Henderson! The game is over before the of the first day.

another poor day with the bat, maybe the weather will save us

I assume that Hoggard agreed to join Leics partly because he was offered the captaincy - a new challenge etc etc. Hoggard didn't appear to be likely captain material - and so it has proved. He started with some daft stuff e.g. if a player misfielded then he wore his cap back to front until there was a new misfield - a strategy that might go down well in under 13s cricket? His bowling changes seem to be by rote and the team selection one of re-cycling failure. I would't criticise the leaving out of henderson for this match - the guy must need a rest and in any case the chances of this match being completed due to weather are remote.

I don't suppose they want to further rock the boat by standing him down during this season - which must sure be his last - but logic would see the captaincy transferred to Sarwan - given that surely Hoggard isn't going to play in all the T20 games?

Everyone must realise by now that it needs a complete sort out at Grace Road in terms of selection, coaching & on the field leadership - in time for next season. Too late this year now.

I wasn't too impressed with Sarwan's captaincy in Cardiff last week, but that's just one day.

To be honest I wasn't thinking of Sarwan as a long term option - but he has captained at international level. Hoggard is still a very decent opening bowler but he just isn't a captain and was probably about the last player in the England or even Yorkshire side who would have been considered for the captaincy.

I'd go back to what has worked for Leicestershire in the past and at the end of the season bring in a couple of quality experienced players one of whom with the qualities to be captain - obviously there would have to be savings elsewhere to meet these costs.
