Let's Play Together!
Posted on: Mon 18 May 2009
Leicester City Football Club is offering the public a unique opportunity to play at the Walkers Stadium, as part of the 125-year anniversary celebrations. On Monday 25th May (Bank Holiday), 18 teams will battle it out for the 6-a-side 125-year anniversary Cup.
Leicester legends, including former Leicester sportspeople and local celebrities will be taking part in this event, giving the public the chance to play alongside and against their sporting heroes. Steve Walsh, Matt Elliott, Alan Birchenall and Carl Muggleton will be among the former City stars.
They will be joined by Leicester's European super-bantamweight boxing champion Rendall Munroe, musician Jersey Budd and his band, and BBC Football Focus presenter Manish Bhasin.
Other celebrities will be announced in the build-up to the event.
Each squad will receive a team photograph as a souvenir of the occasion, will experience the changing room facilities and have the opportunity to walk down the famous Walkers Stadium tunnel.
Leicester City Football Club Chief Executive, Lee Hoos, said: "Our supporters have played an integral part in our immediate return to the Coca-Cola Championship and this day offers a fantastic opportunity to recreate their own magic moments from a memorable season. This will be a unique day and is not to be missed."
The cost for this full-day event is £690 inclusive of VAT and guarantees each team at least five matches on the Walkers Stadium pitch. This works out at just under £70 per person, based on a squad size of ten players. Registration starts at 9am, with matches beginning at 9.30am. The tournament is scheduled to conclude at 3pm when trophies will be presented by one of the legends and a post-match buffet will be served in the 1884 Sports Bar, followed by live coverage of the Coca-Cola Championship Play-Off Final.
To book for this event call 0844 815 5000, e-mail [email protected] or visit the Leicester City ticket office in person, 9am-5pm Monday-Saturday and 10am-2pm Sundays.
Each player is required to supply their own shorts, t-shirt, suitable footwear (studded or moulded boots if wet or Astroturf trainers/trainers if dry) and must wear shin pads when playing. Bibs will be provided.
