Manchester City have been banned from European club competition for the next two seasons after being found to have committed "serious breaches" of Uefa's club licensing and financial fair play regulations.

The reigning Premier League champions have also been fined 30m euros (£25m).

The decision is subject to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Can we finish 5th now MC have been banned and still qualify for champs league?

I'm glad they've listened to Pep moaning about playing too many games. Doubt they'll stay banned though.

If the FA had the balls, they would go the full RFU and give them a 100 point deduction and relegation. Who would bet on that happening.

Have they broken the FA's rules?
Presumably, the EUFA rules on Financial misconduct are the same as those of the FA. I know that we are in the process of leaving Europe, but surely the rules governing National football are the same as those of EUFA. If not, what is the point. Saracens were deducted 100 points for Financial mismanagement and the RFU had the balls. Football needs to be given the same message. Cheating is cheating and will not be tolerated.

This will end up being suspended for 2 years on appeal and all previous European honours will be declared null and void.....

The Independent are saying that the Premier League will have to act and apply a points deduction too.

As a sly aside, they mention that if they were relegated (Saracens style) they'd drop down to League Two due to Football League rules.

Pity none of it will ever happen as it would be among the most beautiful ever football moments.

Miracles can happen....

The feck is EUFA

It says "While no one sees an expulsion from the Premier League as likely, the Football League have recently changed their rules so that any club in that situation must start again in League Two."

I can't find the rule change on the EFL website. But a points deduction is not the same thing as expulsion. If they get a points deduction and end up in the relegation places presumably they'd go into the championship. But if they get expelled from the Premier League they might end up having to apply to enter the EFL, so they'd have to start from the bottom.

As Jeff says, this is not true at all. Something has been lost in translation. “Saracens style” would mean a gigantic, unassailable points deduction – over 100 points. This would simply mean they play out the season with no chance of surviving unless at least three other teams received similar punishment. Even a negative points total cannot move you down three tiers at once.

I might like football again if this happens

Interesting, do they presume that their lawyers will win, or does everyone go on holiday for 18 months ?
