As he walks away, his smug grin says he knows he got away with one.

He'll not be laughing when he ends up playing for Everton. Which he definitely will if they stay up.

In real time I felt that Varane got himself in a poor position and panicked. This season I've felt referees have allowed more physical challenges and it's been better for the game. I'm not disputing that Varane didn't feel pain initialy, but prior to Maddison shooting he was sat up and appealing. As the ball hits the back of the net Varane suffers a secondary bout of pain and is in apparent agony.

With the benefit of multiple replays I'd have hoped that the officials would have seen the initial push on Kelechi and played the advantage, thereby allowing the goal to stand. The push caused Kelechi's centre of gravity to shift over his standing leg. This caused him to fall away. Contact with Varane's leg then occurs.

As for the possible red card, that's just bollocks. And fence sitting pundits can **** off.
