Not impressed with Sky on this one. I mentioned last year that a mate of mine is good pals with Ramsey, Walsh, Mauchlen, Reid and the other Masters players. I took the wee wee out of him because i seen him get in on the celebrations when Leicester won the national title last year. When he returned to work he told me what a great day they'd had and an even better evening after the event. On winning the national title they were supposed to qualify for the 'Masters of Europe'. Sky decided to cancel it, because Leicester had won the national title, which is not what they wanted or expected. If Liverpool, Man U, Chelsea, or Arsenal had won then there would have been a 'Masters of Europe'. Sky quite clearly didn't want Leicester to win it.

I thought they did play in the European one, and indeed won it, or was I dreaming

There was some confusion a couple of months ago when Sky repeated last summer's tournament, some people thought it was a different one.

They didn't do the European one this year, they did a version with national teams instead. According to the Mockery they might be allowed into next year's European one.

After watching Chelsea in it the other night no other team stands a chance, they even have the poison fecking dwarf to cheat his way round the pitch.

I think Matty Elliott is in this time. Leicester can't pick their own squad, its all down to who Sky invite.

I thought it was the PFA who decided the teams.

According to the Mockery Alan Paris is in our team, but he played for Watford's team on Sunday so I'll be surprised if he's allowed to play for two teams.

I think they also mentioned Mauchlen and Ramsey.

Last year the team included Spearing, Oldfield, Groves, Wright, Russell? as well as the three mentioned above.

I'm fairly certain Sky send out the invites. The players get around £500 each for being in the squad. They will also go for players who will be more easily recognised by the fans. In other words they will invite an overweight 45yr old who is a ' name ' rather than have a ' ringer ' who is 38 yr old and was only ever a fringe player in a team

From the Masters website:

How are the Masters players chosen?
Masters players are chosen by the PFA (Professional Footballers Association) based on a number of criteria. Many of the players take part in Vets teams for their clubs and an effort is made to ensure each Masters team is made up of those players that contributed as much as possible to their respective club. Fitness, age and availability are also taking into consideration with the goal of maximising each team's potential.

Despite what that says i can confidently state that it does not work like that.No bullshit, i really can get the info on this from the horses mouth. The PFA may have some involvment but Sky decide who will appear. The bit about selecting players who have made contributions to their club indicates that this is a load of piffle. Leicesters goalkeeper last year was Dave Belford? who didn't play for Leicester. Though a few Hinckley locals may have seen him. He managed to get in because he had got connections with someone at Sky, nothing to do with the PFA. The bit about fitness is a joke as well, have you seen the state of some of them:icon_bigg

Assuming you mean Dale Belford, how do you know he got in because of connections with Sky?

I thought he was in the team because there were no 'real' former Leicester goalkeepers available.
Goalkeepers can be a problem at this event because it's a specialist position and a lot of them are still playing in the league and may not be able to commit to playing in the masters too.

We saw the problem with goalkeepers in Sunday's masters event, Arsenal had Vince Bartram in goal, hardly a big name, only 11 of his 400+ career appearances were for Arsenal.
Spurs had Kevin Dearden in goal, his career for Spurs consisted of one appearance as a sub.
Wimbledon and Watford had goalkeepers who played their whole career at non-league level.

Dale Belford thats the one. My source of information is Tom a chap that works with me, he was a very good player in his day and was amongst a crop of promosing players in the 80's that went on to turn professional. He sustained a nasty leg injury and his career was finished before it started. He was, and still is pals with the likes of Mauchlen, Ramsey, Walshy, and many other city players and he socialises with many of them. At last years masters the players let him be ' manager ' . If i ever post any city gossip on here, then Tom is usually my source because he's got loads of connections with the club. I'm not going to pretend that i'm Mad Biker but whenever Tom gives me info then its generally not far off the mark.

With reference to your post about the selection policy i asked Tom today about it, and he says that the PFA provide sky with a list of players. Then sky choose from that list who they want to invite.
