Club have announced that their overseas player Andrew Mcdonald has been called up to play for Australia A in an upcoming series and will consequently miss 9 T20 games and 1 CC 4 day game.

Massive blow to their chances as he is a T20 specialist & has recent IPL experience. I also believe that he was to captain Leics in this seasons T20.

There is practically no chance that the club can replace Mcdonald as it not only would take time to find an available player but also takes 21 days to get a work permit.

The club say that this came out of the blue.

Not sure how or why. Surely these series are set up with plenty of notice?!

I think we would need to look for an all rounder to be honest... as much as a like for like with Mcdonald as possible.

I do realise however that this may be nearly impossible.

Season turning into another disaster, with the batting calamitous again today and injuries and overseas unavailability

I can't believe this came "out of the blue".

It must have always been a strong possibility that where the player sits in the Aussie pecking order would give him a good chance of an A team place.

Members were whinging about it at Grace Road yesterday - but the matter is about poor planning and the hazards of the trade.....and good luck to Andrew McDonald who is running into form.

Nixon is now back in the Twenty20 frame as County have decided they won't be able to enter the Champions League anyway due to the fixture clash. However as far as I'm aware the counties haven't yet made the decision on how to handle the Champions League.

I wonder how much of this is a bit of panic in needing another experienced Twenty20 batter following McDonald's departure?
