VVD has transformed Liverpool. His price looked high at the time, yes, but everyone knew they were getting a good player.

Maguire is decent but not the same standard and needs more support around him. If the rest of their defence was better, he'd look better.

We got the best of that deal and I think all of us could see it at the time; £80m was an unbelievable figure. I'd take Evans over the last 2 years, Morgan or Huth from our title season over Maguire any day.

he's played fairly regularly for them, given most of our players we release disappear into non-league never to be seen again that's a decent career so far for a 23 year old
