TIM BOON has confirmed that former Nottinghamshire seam bowler Nadeem Malik has become the latest capture in his winter rebuilding programme.

Leicestershire’s Senior Coach has clinched the signing of 25-year-old Malik on a one-year contract after a considerable amount of speculation in recent weeks linking him with a move to Grace Road this winter.

Malik had grown increasingly frustrated at Worcestershire with his lack of first team opportunities and had indeed returned to Trent Bridge for a short loan spell midway through the 2007 season.

Standing at 6ft 5in tall, Boon expects him to emerge as a valuable asset in his pace attack in the 2008 season by generating bounce and movement to cause opposing batsmen problems.

I think Malik is about 6ft 6, so hes pretty big. Then again David Stiff was about 6ft9 and was pretty shit.

At that height if Malik can swing the ball he'd be a handful with the bounce he'd be getting IMO.

Nixon said this last week:

Boetha Dippenaar and Nadeem Malik are the senior men who have been added to the County ranks but Nixon feels there are other additions in the wings. "If we can get a couple of the signings we are looking for - and we are close to that - then I believe we will be a really competitive unit," he said.
