He did what was needed at Leeds. Became their manager, told them they were all a bunch of cheating w@nkers and left - getting a decent compensation package out of it as well. Nice
The cheating was worse than we realised at the time. Once on Parkinson Clough said "I can't tell you why I don't like Don Revie because if I did we would be taken off the air." We now know he believed that on at least one occasion Revie bribed a referee. He certainly knew about the Bob Stokoe incident. During Revie's first season at Leeds they were in danger of relegation from the second division. Revie tried to bribe Bob Stokoe the Bury manager for his team "to go easy."
The team Clough inherited were cynical and unpleasant but Leeds cheating had gone further than that.
Leeds needed to get rid of players like Bremner who were well past their best. When the board backed the players against Clough they behaved very foolishly. Just think what he might have done had he stayed at Leeds.
It is fashionable for Leicester fans to knock Derby and Forest but the teams Brian Clough produced there were superb on the field and a credit to football. It was Leeds loss.
