Olympics opening ceremony

I really had not intended to watch the Olympic ceremony. For me the Diamond Jubilee and the European Championships were the important summer events. The Olympics rank just behind Hinckley Town vs Leicester City. However, I thought the ceremony was quite brilliant. It almost got me interested and then I remembered synchronized swimming.

Incidentally when they parachuted down it may have been the real Queen but the James Bond was a fake; for me the real James Bond is Sean Connery.

A parachuting Queen and James Bond? What, really? Oh dear. Let me guess, people were actually cheering on and encouraging this level of ****ery?

The average death due to parachuting is 30 in every 100000 jumps - it's a bit like knowing you aren't going to win the lottery but buy a ticket anyway just in case.

Quite right too. Apart from Macca fluffing his opening to Hey Jude the entire ceremony was flawless and great, captivating entertainment.
 
I really don't understand the level of negativity on here towards the opening ceremony (excluding the athletes procession), a fantastically British snippet of how Britain has evelved. To criticise the commercialism of the Olympics when most of us 'put up with' the premier league and sky is double standards of the highest order.

As for it being based in London, WTF should it have been based - leicester FFS?
 
Opening ceremony was absolutely terrific, and that is coming from a miserable sceptical bastard. Shame some people are as negative and boring as expected.

Away from the opening ceremony I was a bit annoyed by Mark Cavendish and his little spat at the reporter interviewing him for the news. He asked a very relevant question only to be shot down by Cavendish who asked him if he knew anything at all about cycling, I thought the Olympics was supposed to help encourage people to become interested in sports they wouldn't normally consider, I'm glad our local racing club wouldn't show that attitude to a new road racer, terrible ambassador for the sport on that little show.

No. Somalia. That'd be ****ing brilliant, even I'd watch that. Gangs of marauding Islamists shooting the place up, there'd be some great youtube clips and imagine them trying to enforce their ****ing brand identities there.

You won't be watching the Olympics and won't be within hundreds of miles, so why does the branding annoy you so much? You can drink, eat and wear whatever you choose. It seems like just wanting to be annoyed at "the corporation" for the hell of it.

Aaaw don't be all snotty on me, there's no need for that. We're just having a conversation. I don't care if you like all that Olympics bollocks, good for you, it doesn't make any difference to your life if I find it all a load of old wank. Imagine we're all sat in the pub, well I'm the annoying, obstreperous ****er in the corner talking shite. It wouldn't be the same if I wasn't there.

Considering the numpty didn't seem to know that Cav had just cycled 3500km around France and shown a clean pair of heels to the best sprinters in the world racing down the Champs Elysees last Sunday, I'd say his reply was a model of restraint.

Would pay serious money to hear him interviewed by Stringer.

Exactly, his recent exploits were massive, he has cycled huge amounts in the last few months, for any average Joe watching the coverage it was a valid question that they may have been asking themselves. Maybe he should have said why cycling for 3500km doesn't effect him in any way, maybe he could have enlightened the mere mortals who were interested in the answer to the question.
