Sad news. They're doing a tribute to him on talksport now. Apparently he was a huge horse racing fan, loved the sport and the fact that the racing obsessives didn't bother him with football questions.

This is a big one. He had quite a silly way with words, and that was an endearing quality. He didn't take himself too seriously, and I think the world of English football is getting too serious and technical now.

I always thought he was abit cheesy but nevertheless, he was a hugely significant part of my childhood. RIP Motty.

I liked him but he did become rather annoying in his later years and seemed to worship the big players a bit too much. His adoration for Beckham was actually sort of creepy. His best moment was probably his contribution to an episode of The Detectives ().

Motson was without doubt one of the very few voices of football. RIP.
