Oh you bloody spoil sport lol excellent summary though. This sort of chart is why they're called the 'big six'. It's purely driven by revenue which then enables wages and transfer fees. And that should lead to trophies - but obviously that relies upon a level of competence often gladly not found.
Off the pitch, we're competing with the likes of Everton, West Ham, Newcastle, Leeds and Wolves. That's our level. We are currently doing exceptionally well in that world, considering several of those clubs have much better histories than we do and bigger support bases.
On the pitch, to our great credit, we're competing with the 'big six'. Our results exceed logic. But we're not a part of that group and we're highly unlikely to ever be part of it. We're just not big enough to sustain ourselves there.
As we've seen every summer, the big clubs directly pick off our better players (in their opinion) partly to improve themselves and partly in an attempt to keep us from getting too good. Cleverly, we've discovered a technique whereby they buy someone from us that we replace with 2-3 better players. This is enabling us to hang in there. But it cannot and will not last forever. We can never be there long term so we should just enjoy the ride for as long as we can.

Newcastle have a 50k+ stadium and aren’t in the “Big 6”, whereas Chelsea don’t have a 50k+ stadium and are. It’s about revenue, not stadium size.Oh you bloody spoil sport lol excellent summary though.
So all we need, is a 50,000+ stadium, fill it and then we can call it the big7?
Are there 50,000 people that would come?
If not, do we just suck it up or attempt a radical idea, I dunno, perhaps join up with uknDerbyhzxc and twForestvasj - Loughborough United in a 100,000 stadium - be the best lol
How do we generate the revenue required?Newcastle have a 50k+ stadium and aren’t in the “Big 6”, whereas Chelsea don’t have a 50k+ stadium and are. It’s about revenue, not stadium size.
Champions League and sponsorships that make some proper money - are we still getting almost nothing from King Power? How do we generate the revenue required?
So essentially you agree, they should rename it 'the entitled 6'
So if we qualify for the CL this season and say get to the Q/F, how many of them will it take?Champions League and sponsorships that make some proper money - are we still getting almost nothing from King Power?
We must almost be reaching the Newcastle-type point where the stadium is the King Power, but the sponsor is whoever's bidding the highest. Presumably Pari-Match or some other Oligarch backed scam
It wasn't even that. The "Big 4" didn't exist until recently too.Remember that until Man City started to win things and Tottenham got in the Champions League under Redknapp it was always referred to as the "Big Four."
It wasn't even that. The "Big 4" didn't exist until recently too.
Even then, though, the Big 4 didn't exist. It only became that after Abramovich took over Chelsea (2003).Yep, I'm only referring to the time since football was invented, post 1992.
Fair point. I guess I was mostly referring to your use of the word “always” in an earlier post and just trying to say that the Big 4 wasn’t even a thing 20 years ago.Is 2003 not post 1992?
Maybe the stadium, but definitely not the shirts. So if we qualify for the CL this season and say get to the Q/F, how many of them will it take?
Regards sponsorship, KP must be making more money sponsoring the stadium than it would selling that to Sponsorship.com?
By enticing more fickle fans from the continent into buying our merchandise and supporting our great team. If you want an example, go and visit old trafford. How do we generate the revenue required?
And treble the size of the city. Dead easy really.By enticing more fickle fans from the continent into buying our merchandise and supporting our great team. If you want an example, go and visit old trafford.
I get the opportunity to watch Manchester United with my father in law. The tickets come from 'fans' in the portsmouth supporters group when they can't make it.
