I've seen unrepresented defendants successfully use the "hardship" argument. You can only ever use it once, so magistrates seem happy to allow them their one last chance.

Bit harsh to put him in the Ched thread though Steve-o. As far as I am aware he only dished out a beating and not a bumming though I presume the latter will become a regular occurence for him for the next 10 months!
