Steven Walsh (born November 3, 1964) was a professional footballer, who spent most of his career at Leicester City. He also played for Wigan, Norwich, Tamworth and Coventry City, over a career lasting 21 years. He scored two goals at Wembley when Leicester beat Derby County to reach the Premiership under Brian Little. He was a defender and occasional striker. He captained the side when Leicester won the league cup (then the Coca-Cola Cup) at Hillsborough, beating Middlesbrough in the replay. He is still held up as legend of Leicester, even getting mobbed in the concourse befor the F.A. Cup 3rd round replay against Fulham at Craven Cottage. After the crowd sung songs about him, he joined in with the singing, and was seen singing various songs throughout the match. He currently manages a golf course in Spain.

Whatever successes he enjoyed at Leicester, he is not remembered with a great deal of fondness by supporters of the other clubs for whom he played. At Norwich in particular, his few appearances saw him play in a lazy, disinterested manner that failed to justify the large salary that he was earning. He was shown the door after Nigel Worthington became City manager during the 2000-01 season.

It would be incorrect to consider Walsh as just a defender, whilst at Leicester it was equally commonplace to see him playing as a striker. This led to some prolific goalscoring including 2 goals in the 1993-94 playoff final against local rivals Derby County when Walsh, who was playing in his first game back from long term injury, secured Leicester's place in the premiership.

Walsh was known for his often violent behaviour, and once received an eleven match ban after smashing the jaw of striker David Geddis, whilst playing for Leicester against Shrewsbury.

thanks, shame he didn't stay in football and progress into management...
