After half an hour of tonight's games Paddy Power posted on their Facebook page:

I think they thought they were joking.

Who came third in a two horse race?

Who could not make it to the CL quarter finals?

It is the sworn duty of every LCFC fan to hunt down every Spurs fan tomorrow and rub their noses in it!

How immensely enjoyable that was. I've got a happy glow.

& an easy peasy profit from laying the useless, choking, bottleless no-marks.

Plus a score anytime bet on Higuain

Just wish I'd gone all in on Juve when Spurs were one up as I was tempted to.

Never mind though, financial gain plus emotional satisfaction is a win any day.

We'll that's the last we'll see of Tottingham in the Champions League for at least six months.

They've been a team in the making for a good few seasons now. It'll be interesting to see what they do over the summer. The gormless wonder will be off (he struggles with English so forrin won't be a concern), and there might well be others on their way. Why even Pochettino might be off for 'new challenges'.

As Levy doesn't seem one to get the cheque book out often, for wages or transfers, this might be the end of this particular iteration.

To be fair to Spurs (though lord knows why) they have done well, I feel, in building their current side. They've not indulged in the mega-spending of the big clubs, they've stuck pretty much with the same squad for a while, adding the odd player, worked with it, shaped it and (ach, I hate to say this) have developed a style of football. Pochettino has been given time and has, I feel, done well working within the constraints (Levy's a tight bastard by football standards). And I really hate to credit him (or Spurs) with anything!

But it does bring me pleasure whenever they are beaten! Despite all my attempts to sound fair and balanced, I am still one-eyed and parochial etc!

I agree with all that, and find it hard to understand all the Spurs hate (there are plenty of far more worthy recipients!). Controversially, I don't really understand the Kane hate either (can't stand Alli though!).

My spurs-supporting colleague was keeping well out of my way. Finally got to see him just after lunch when I told him I had only managed to watch the first hour of the game and he was no doubt pleased that they were well in control and how happy he must be for them to have got through to the next round. I then asked him who he fancied in the quarters. I haven't seen him since.

Weren't they the first to go out last year too?

They were the only English club not to reach the knockout phase. Dropping to the round of 32 in the Europa Cup, they were beaten by Gent of (ha!) Belgium.
