Mike Dean will be refereeing this game.

In that case Vardy should save himself the long walk to the centre circle and just get straight in the early bath. He has little chance of staying out of Dean's book!

Why is everyone so negative? Mahrez is being a pain in the arse and being very unprofessional. However we have some very good players, and if I remember correctly the arseholes start the season very slowly, we could well nick a win at best, at worst a draw. Where all this doom and gloom is coming from is beyond me.

Statistics mean next to nothing, especially when your dealing with a team game, it's history with a bit of analysis, but still meaningless drivel. You can quote all the stats you like but they do not predict the future. City winning the hardest league in the world proved that.

We only won it because we were better than the other teams. Have you not learned anything from the fans of the elite clubs?

I have a strange ( call it preseason optimism) that we'll win this. So I've had a fiver on it.

On the plus side we have a very settled team. (one new signing likely to start - Maguire)

On negative side we've not really improved the team enough (one new signing likely to start).

Who let Michael Gove in? Own up.

I think we can score a couple. Their defence still looks pretty poor.

I'm going for a 2-2 draw

Okay.

1. Because this is sport and therefore unpredictable as we, above all fans, should have learned by now.

2. Because the past is not necessarily a perfect blueprint for the future.

3. Because some fans aren't overly keen on being derisory and forlorn of hope about their team week in week out and look forward to watching them play with the knowledge that it is possible even if not probable, that we could win.

4. Because we, like you and every other keyboard expert know the square root of **** all about how the team will set up, what their attitude will be, how much confidence the players have and, therefore, what will transpire on Friday, so being pessimistic about what-ifs and maybes is just akin to being a miserable so and so.

5. Because football is back and it is surely better to be excited about it with hope for what could happen however miscalculated that may turn out to be, than exhaustively underwhelmed by everyone and everything related to the club we are supposed to support.

There, I gave it a go.

I'm excited that we have football back. It may be good, it may be bad, but at least it's back.

Shinji to exhaust himself pressing as he always does for an hour, Nacho to come on for him to exploit some tired defenders

Nice try.

Our title achievement will forever be used as a reason why the improbable can happen. And of course it can. The problem is that it's improbable for a reason. The top six this season will probably be the same top six as last season because that's just what history/experience/knowledge tells us.

We could indeed go to Arsenal and win. However, it is extremely improbable. Based on very good evidence. Our record against that team, that manager and those players is dreadful.

I am very underwhelmed about this season for some reason. Maybe it's because of Shakespeare, maybe because I'm not excited by our transfer business. Maybe it's because I'm a miserable git. Maybe it's all three.

I expect us to start badly, lose confidence, lose key players before the end of the month, sack the manager and then (hopefully) recover in time to survive. I'm expecting us to be totally outclassed by Arsenal. And I warn you all now that I'm going to be insufferable in my complaining about every tactical cock-up, every stupid selection and every bad result.

The manager and players really need to show me something to ignite positivity this year. The end of last season, our summer business and the pre-season has done feck all for me. I'm almost feeling the same as at the start of the 2001/2 season.

The fact that you 'expect' these things is exactly what I was referring to. I may fear them but I don't expect them.

It's too exhausting and rather boring to be so pessimistic and negative all the time.

I think you are pushing your 'life and soul of the party' persona a bit here!

We had not won at F*rest for 40 years, but then we did.

Arsenal have lost opening games. Why not to us?

This is still mostly our Champions team. They have unfinished business with the Arse. They will be up for it.

It does not matter if we play our Champions 'formation/style'.

Stoke have been playing the same way for 8 years. They still win matches despite everyone knowing how they play.
