Ok, final stab at this.
If you had £2000 to buy a car, what would you buy?

The most important things are, in order:

1.) reliability
2.) speed/power
3.) style
4.) miles
5.) age

a 1 litre ford, blow the rest on parties

Honda with a VTEC engine. :icon_wink

For that money go for a Golf GTi Joe!!!

Or a MkII MR2 would tick the boxes for speed, power and style, not too sure on reliability but the Japanese are pretty good.

Obviously age and how many miles it has done will vary from car to car.

Try and get a car with as few previous owners and as much service history/receipts as possible as that will give you an indication as to it's reliability and how well it has been kept!!

Agreed, it will cover 1, 2 and 3. But for 2K it may be quite old with quite heavy mileage but they are at the bottom of the list.....

Also Joe, ask when the cambelt was last changed and find out at what intervals it should be done.

That is one of the most important parts of servicing and if that bad boy snaps you'll be looking at around £500 to repair it. It happened to two of my mates so check it out or allow for a cambelt change in your budget. Should cost you around £200 possibly less to get it done. I'm getting mine done when I have the money and will let you know how much I paid but it varies on the size of the engine as it is the labour costs that hike up the price!!

Mammoth Motors in Lutterworth has a ford mondeo ST24 going for £1875 on ebay, 1998 car with 67,000 miles.

Than what would you call a corsa? :icon_wink

The Corsa manages to toe the line of being a 'just passed unisex' car and a 'wife's middle-class family' car. My boss used to have one and he earns loads but now drives a Rover 100 from the 50s.

There is also a term for a smashed up Rover....'useless' car.

Half expecting myself to find a touched car now in Goals this evening.
