2008/09 Prediction League - time to get things in motion!

Still three weeks to go until the season starts but as I am away for two of those weeks, we need to get things started now. I'll remind everybody of the rules and give the timetable for the new season below.

This season all predictions will be based on the results of League One games. I'll post the fixtures about a week before the date of the games; participants should then post their predictions in the same thread. As soon as possible after the games, I'll post the results of that week's predictions and the new tables.

The 2008/09 season will be split into four sessions with promotion and relegation taking place at the end of each session:

• 1st session - 9th August until 18th October - 11 games
• 2nd session - 21st October until 28th December - 12 games
• 3rd session - 3rd January until 28th February - 11 games
• 4th session - 3rd March until 3rd May - 12 games

Promotion will continue to be four-up, four-down at the end of each session.

Point scoring will continue as last season. All participants who correctly predict the result of the game will get one point with additional points being awarded for exact scores and near-misses:

• A fully correct prediction of the score will earn 5 points
• A correct prediction of the goal difference will score 3 points
• Any other prediction of the correct result will earn 1 point

If the score is 2-1 and you predict 2-1, you will earn 5 points
If the score is 2-1 and you predict 1-0, 3-2, 4-3, etc, you will earn 3 points
If the score is 2-1 and you predict 2-0, 4-1, 4-2, etc, you will earn 1 point​

In drawn games:

• Again a fully correct prediction of the score will earn 5 points
• If you are one goal out, you will earn 3 points
• If you have predicted any other draw, you will earn 1 point

If the score is 2-2 and you predict 2-2, you will earn 5 points
If the score is 2-2 and you predict 1-1, 3-3, you will earn 3 points
If the score is 2-2 and you predict 0-0, 4-4, 5-5, etc, you will earn 1 point​

Everybody who was active in the final session of last season's Prediction League competition will automatically be entered for this season. If you haven't taken part before, please PM me to let you know that you want to join in - or simply post your predictions in the thread.

What's the point in having leagues Boc? If you really want leagues then can you at least do a total league as well so that we can see who is the best rather than who is the best in each bunch?

Because the best will get to the Top League after a while.Although I don't take part I think Boc does a fine job.....if only I could understand the scoring system

If there were no leagues in 'proper' football we may have avoided the drop last season :icon_bigg

We can still see exactly how everyone compares, Joe, because, the way I understand the system, it's a largely points-based game. I'm guessing, but I think that, broadly speaking, the person with the most points is the one who's doing the best...
