....show the ridculously small difference between this having been a positive season (despite having 33 managers) and being the mind grindingly rubbish one it has been so far.
It's easy to say, but four games which could easily have been won illustrate both the incredibly poor quality of this division, and how easy it would have been for us to be around the play offs with virtually no difference in our level of overall performance for the season.
Colchester away, Cardiff at Home, Charlton at home, Scunthorpe away.
Each of these games we should have won (based solely on how the action unfolded), particularly Charlton where we conceded a ridiculous comedy last minute equaliser.
these 4 games alone, exempting all of the truly terrible performances, would have us now on the verge of the playoffs with it all to play for.
When we think of how poor we have been ALL season and how little real football we have played this is really a sad indictment of the Championship, and also really frustrating as a Leicester fan.
BUGGER. BUGGER.BUGGER.

In some ways, Sparko, it's quite encouraging - the division is so crap that we haven't got to improve that much to be in amongst the clubs between about 6th and 11th (next season, obviously).

I cant see any of the promoted sides stopping up next season. Its one of the poorest divisions i can remember for some time.

I don't think the teams coming down (particularly one of them)will be that good either.:icon_wink

I'm not so sure. All the teams in the shake-up for relegation look a world better than anything in the fizzy, and they will be far better placed financially than previously, so more likely to be able to hang on to a fair proportion of their squads.

As Redditch says we are seeing the start of a new era that will see the gap widen year on year. of course there will still be the odd club that falls apart after relegation and the odd club with outside cash that can make a decent challenge, but the trend will be remorseless. Then in a few seasons the pressure to end automatic promotion and relegation will probably become near irresistable.

I can see that quite easily happening (sorry to agree with someone for a change). It's quite possible that we will have promotion/relegation between the lower leagues, but there will be the same 20 teams in the prem year in, year out. I think that's when we will see a proper euro league being created.

(Call it mystical insight)

To be honest, it won't be too difficult to make the case against the promotion spot through the play offs. The successful team is by definition the weakest of those promoted - could be as low as 6th in the table - and because of the timing of the play off final has least opportunity to strengthen its squad.

A few more Derby like disasters and I think the momentum will be unstoppable.

Of course, people could point to the spate of excellent results in the FA Cup by lower division sides, but my own take on that is that FA Cup ties are of relatively low importance to premiership clubs these days.

which is why some folks would like it to be made more important by giving the winners a champions league place....won't be too long before the johnstones paint trophy gets you into the 'champions' league and domestic football takes second fiddle entirely

Of course we could have lost 4 games that we won ..... and be staring down into Div 1. There is not a fan in the country that can't play the "if" game. Same thing could be said when we last got relegated ... we could have easily got the 4 wins we needed to stay up - Wolves, Spurs, Middlesbrough, Newcastle - but we didn't.

Over the season you invariably get what you deserve - and frankly we deserve to be where we are - as this board has made clear over the last four years.

You missed out the Arsenal game last game of the season! I would have seriusly laughed myself silly if we had won that one and knackered their unbeaten season.

We didn't do too bad after going up via the playoffs in '96.........

Absolutely right.....and that was 12 long years ago and things have changed a lot in that time.

My impression is that the standard in the premiership improves year on year and the standard in the fizzy league falls year by year.
