I am new to this site so this may have been done.

I think most people would agree in modern times the Glory days of LCFC were the 70's under Bloomfield and the late 90's under O'Neil.

If you had to pick a side from the two eras what would the best team be.

IMO

Shilton
Whitworth
Rofe
Walsh (capt)
Elliott
Weller
Izzet
Lenon
Glover
Heskey
Worthington

Those who were around in the sixties might argue with that. 5 cup finals in the decade, and some good league campaigns when we were genuine title contenders. As good as the Bloomfield team could be to watch at times, they didn't come close to the achievements of the sixties side.

I wasn't around then, but I think the facts speak for themselves. The 60s have to be up there with the O'Neill era, if not above. We could have won the double after all!

From what I've heard in the 70s they looked good but were no better than mid-table.

It's always a massive debate in our local.

A bloke who had a hiatus with the growing hooliganism, the infamous Rangers friendly was his last game till 1991. He argues the case for O'Neill boys.

Then my Dad and a couple of other blokes argue the case of Bloomfield boys. Weller is a god in their eyes.

Then there is a bloke slightly older who argues the claim of the Cup Finals sides.

Finally, there is a real old boy who is from Sunderland and he claimes the days of Rowley and Chandler was real football. His idol is Brian Clough (playing his scoring record is next to none), despite the close alliance with Middlesboro.

Don't forget that Brian Clough did also play for Sunderland for a little while.

I would have Jon Sammels in for Izzet and Chris Garland in for Heskey

Having watch City since the mid-fifties I would agrre with you. We achiced a lot with only the league cup to show for it. Played good football and scored a lot goals. Highlight were the cup finals and being second in the league only on "goal average". God that makes feel old. 70's team was good to watch for the style of football they played, just a shame that they never had anything to show for it. MON era was good for the success it achieved and was probably the most competive team we ever had. The draw with Arse at Filbert St. was a pure example. I couldn't name a team without putting a certain G.Banks in as the first name on the sheet.

I can only find us being second in the top flight league in 1928-29 which we missed out on 'goal average'. We would have won if goal difference was in affect.

you are only looking at the end of season tables though hazz, I think Bilborough meant during an actual season

Your right about that. Can't remember what year it was but we had a bad winter and a lot of cancellation were around. We won a match in bad conditions when others were canceled and we sat second in the league on goal average.

Apologies for not making that clear in the first place, those memories brought tears to my eyes and clouded my response.

We were in the top two in the league between mid February and the end of April 1963.
We had two short spells at the top of the league in April of that year, before losing the last 4 games and finishing 4th. Three points from those last four games would have seen us finish second.

I wasn't alive in the 70s so i think i'll go for the 90s, they won the most trophies in that era
