Wonder what went on there then ....

Cambridge manager Martin Ling has resigned from his position after only nine days in the job, BBC Radio Cambridgeshire understands.

The former Leyton Orient boss replaced sacked Gary Brabin last week but did not turn up for training on Tuesday.

The 43-year-old has refused to comment on the situation, except to confirm he would not be at the training session.

It is believed the Cambridge players were informed on Tuesday morning of Ling's resignation.

Ling, who signed a three-year deal with Cambridge, should have led the team in their opening Blue Square Premier match of the season against Barrow on Saturday.

This beats last weeks story that 2 other guys were also offered the job and were even asked to turn up for the press conference/announcement and then had a text an hour beforehand on their way there telling them they were no longer wanted!!!!!!!!

Liam Daish was one of them and the other former Weymouth boss Alan Lewer is considering suing Cambridge United after he said he was offered the job by U's chairman George Rolls, only for a contract to be offered to Martin Ling instead.

Lewer was one of a number of managers supposedly in Cambridge under the impression they were nailed on for the role before Ling was announced last week.

Rolls was, as usual, dignified in his response, saying: "Cambridge United would have been scraping the bottom of the barrel if we had employed him" '

Ling was reported to be concerned about The NonLeague Paper's story that all three would-be managers were summoned to the Cambridge groundd last Monday before Rolls "took his pick" an hour before the press conference.

Now the chairman has gone.

George Rolls has resigned as chairman of Cambridge United following a board meeting on Wednesday.
Rolls told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I can confirm I have resigned as chairman of Cambridge United football club with immediate effect.
"I have also resigned from the board of directors alongside Terry Baker."
Martin Ling left his post as manager on Tuesday after just nine days in charge at the Abbey Stadium citing irreconcilable differences with Rolls.
And Martin's predecessor, Gary Brabin, also quit last month after clashing with the board.
Majority shareholder Paul Barry has been elected interim chairman.

Rolls not been there long but looks like he liked to be the boss

One good thing he did though Quote " June 2008 – Jimmy Quinn left United by mutual consent, with Rolls understood to have been instrumental in his departure.

Signed Lee McEvilly prior to appointment of a new manager.Gary Brabin and Paul Carden brought in on two-year deals.

Oversaw sale of England C international Michael Morrison to Leicester for £100,000-plus."
