HELP!

If I buy a phone that has a description of "The always-on 3G internet [FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][SIZE=-1]connection helps, and with HSDPA giving download speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps and WiFi offering 54 Mbps", what happens if I have a contract that doesn't include internet?

Will I rack up huge internet usage costs?

What happens with the iPhone for instance, I presume this has free internet included but what about other smart or 'smartish' phones?

Thanks,
Joe

You'll have to pay for data use, and depending on the contract it could be pretty expensive. Usually internet access is available as an add on, but it's not cheap and the data allowance is pretty low.

If you're still thinking of using a mobile internet connection at home I wouldn't recommend it. The data allowance with mobile contracts isn't really enough if you're going to be downloading things like music and videos.

Webbo, I'm not really thinking like that, I'm more thinking what if I want to look at stuff on the internet on my phone. I know that sometimes I pull my Sony Ericsson out of my pocket to find the internet on and it costs a quid or so, but I don't really want to have this in addition to my £30 bill per month. How much internet usage does a mobile phone use typically in a month?

That's like asking how long is a piece of string, it depends what you use it for. If they are selling an internet phone, on a £30 a month contract with no internet allowance you are being ripped off anyway.

Looks like vodafone's interpretation of 'unlimited' is 500MB per month. I think that would probably do.

I read that if you get a contract with O2 that has unlimited texts, you can ring up and switch unlimited texts to 'unlimited' internet. Is this true?

I also read that vodafone have included 'unlimited' internet on some of their proce plans but it doesn't say which!

What tariffs include 'unlimited' internet as if I get a phone with decent a internet browser and GPS I will undoubtably want 'unlimited' broadband.
