Anti virus software

I recently upgraded my virgin security software and it seems to have really screwed up my laptop.

I want to uninstall it and find something else that will be just as secure (if not more so) - can anyone recommend a reasonably priced one?

I think once a virgin's security has been breached it is far too late for anything else then............

I'm with Virgin and would NEVER willingly use any software that they recommended or supplied.

My PC's use either AVG or Microsoft Security Essentials (both free) and I don't bother with a third party firewall.

Not of the AV you were using but of McAfee; it slowed our computers at work, almost to a stop.

I've heard of people having similar trouble with the Virgin AV though.

It was horrendous; my laptop was freezing constantly, you then couldnt open up firefox for a good ten minutes when you re-booted.
