Here we go again, then.
I'm glad James starts, and also pleased to see Mahrez. I think the stick he got for much of last season was unmerited and that which he has received since (inevitably) asking to leave has been equally so. We'll not see his like again, so let's just enjoy him while he remains.
I'm never optimistic when we go to Arsenal. None of our moves over the summer have done anything to change that constant. We'll lose tonight but the result alone shouldn't be used as a predictor of our form this season. It will be, either way, of course.
I'll be delighted if we're outside the bottom three after six matches given the difficulty of our opening fixtures. It's vital that we grab points from the new boys. I don't think either fixture will be easy though. Brighton will be tough to break down and Huddersfield's pressing won't allow us to rest. But that's for the future.
This season is one in which I hope to be proven wrong. I think the signings of Maguire, Iborra and Iheanacho are good ones, but that our summer business hasn't done enough to fill in obvious gaps in the squad. A right back, another centre back, a midfielder to play high up and create from the centre are all things which we lack. I also think the appointment of Shakespeare will prove to be a mistake.
Fortunately I think we are good enough to have made those errors and not be too badly harmed by them. We'll end up somewhere between 12th and 16th. It could have been 6th-10th with a proper crack at a cup with that right changes. Maybe it will be and I'll be shown, once again, to know nothing. I hope so.
I'm glad we're back, anyway. Here's to me being wrong about everything.
