Leicester City are planning to carry the name of a regional charity on their away kit for next season.

After feedback from supporters, the club are now inviting applications from regional charitable and voluntary organisations wishing to be considered.

City's home shirt will remain blank next season as part of the club's 125th anniversary celebrations.

But the club are now actively looking to introduce an away kit carrying a front-of-shirt charity sponsor.

Club chairman Milan Mandaric said: "Many of our supporters contacted us directly to suggest that they would like their club to work with a regional charity in some way shape or form.

"This is an excellent idea. We are always keen to further develop and strengthen our relationships with the local community.

"In this way the football club can play an active role in raising the awareness of a regionally-based organisation.

"We have decided to partner with a regionally-based organisation because Leicester City draws its support predominantly from the regional area."

The club are requesting applications from interested charities and voluntary organisations.

Principal criteria are that the organisation must be:

- An officially registered charity based in the local region
- Work with disadvantaged families and children
- Willing to create a programme that utilises the power of football to assist and benefit disadvantaged people.

The club are looking for original ideas that will have a positive effect on the community in which they sit.

The organisation's name will be carried on the front of the away shirt in the same way as that of a commercial sponsor.

Interested organisations are asked to forward their applications to supporter relations manager Peter Jones on [email protected]

But hurry - the deadline for applications is noon on FRIDAY, JANUARY 30 2009.

The winning organisation will be announced next week.

Then make sure they know about this and apply in time. A little bit of lobbying of the club wouldn't come amiss either.

Just choose between Loros and Rainbows - no one will particularly moan with either of those two.

Put them both on the shirt :102:

wheres gaz when you need him and his shirt design's

Both would look tacky and crap IMO - and his name is Graz :icon_wink

Not suprising news, but glad to see it.

They've not exactly got long to get in on the action though - the deadline for entries is Friday! Have to be speedy.

What makes you think that they haven't been working on this for months now and that they already know who the charity is going to be?

I certainly suspect there is more to this than meets the eye.

I fully suspect that is the case.

They've said they "listened to the fans" by going for a charity-sponsored shirt, but seeing as the calls for that have only been around since last week, then I'm sure this was already in the works and they have already decided who the charity is.

In my experience, and I do mean personal experience, charities are more likely to f**k people over in order to obtain money than most profit making organisations are.

Bollocks to them all.

I think that outrageous comment needs further explanation. Were you accosted by someone in the town centre wanting you to set up a direct debit?
