Why does it have to be a charity anyway? People give enough in otherways, without having this.

SEX APPEAL?

"No thanks", says Trevor, "I already gave at work".

Are we really in a financial position to be able to do this? I thought we were in the shite and every penny was needed. clearly not.

It's only for one season, I guess MM clearly believes we're promoted, so the extra revenue that the Championship will generate would cover the loss in sponsorship revenue for a season. I would also think the shirt will sell more than in recent seasons, so extra money will be coming in from that.

It wouldn't surprise me if lots of lower division clubs end up with no shirt sponsor next season.

In a recession sponsorship will be one of the first things companies stop spending money on, so even if clubs do find sponsors it's likely to be for less money than in previous years.

The recession will affect things like corporate boxes, advertising etc.
Things will only get worse for clubs outside the Premiership.

any idea when the chosen charity will be announced?

Closing date for applications was 30th January and it was said that the 'winning' charity would be announced during the following week. I don't think there has been a further statement on it - I certainly can't find one. The announcement is therefore overdue.

There will be a charity announcement today...but it's not for the away shirt, it's for Alan Birchenall's end of season run.

The away shirt charity will be announced next week.
