Leicester City Football Club is delighted to announce that defender Ben Chilwell has signed a new long-term contract with the Premier League champions.
Ben, 19, commits his future to the Foxes for the next five seasons to June 2021, having built a reputation as one of England’s most promising young defenders since graduating from the Club’s highly regarded Academy.
The final details of the deal were completed at City’s pre-season training base in Los Angeles, where the Foxes face Paris Saint-Germain in the International Champions Cup this Saturday.
Leicester City manager
Claudio Ranieri said:
“It’s fantastic news for us. Ben is a player with a big future and I am very happy that future will be with Leicester City.
“Ever since I arrived in Leicester, Ben has been a young player that has shown a lot of promise. He has all the attributes you would want in a defender and shows a lot of maturity for a player of just 19.
“He has come back for pre-season in very good condition and is already showing that he is ready to push for a place in the team.”
While yet to make his Premier League debut, Chilwell impressed in both the FA Cup and the EFL Cup for City last season, while also gaining experience at Championship-level during an eight-game loan spell with Huddersfield Town.
At international level, Ben most recently made the step up to England Under-21s, having already featured at Under-18, Under-19 and Under-20 level for his country.
On City’s books since the age of 11, Chilwell impressed at every stage of his development through the Leicester City Academy. He captained the Under-18 side that became only the second in the Club’s history to reach the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup and has been a standout performer for the Under-21s since turning pro.
The Milton Keynes-born youngster has featured in both of City’s pre-season fixtures so far this summer and will be in the squad once more this Saturday when the Foxes face French champions Paris Saint-Germain at LA’s StubHub Center in the International Champions Cup.
