Saw Mercury was running a best 11 series. Why don't we do something similar?

So who plays 'keeper?

Seems like a shortlist of 3 to me:

Shilton
Banks
Flowers

I only add Flowers because the other two are pretty old. Any other Honourable mentions?

I think Kevin Poole is worth mentioning...not nearly in the same league as the others..but a stalwart nonetheless.

Wallington should be on the shortlist. Obviously not as good as Shilton or Banks, but still a very good goalkeeper.

defiantly up there with the best we've had, can't really look beyond them three

Wallington should be on the shortlist.

I agree, if only for his two long unbroken spells between the sticks.

Yeah from a historical point of view Banks, Shilton and Wallington are the 3 that stand out.

In more recent times it has to be Flowers though. Never understand why people sometimes put Keller or Walker ahead of him, don't get me wrong they were both good keepers but I think Flowers was clearly a step ahead. For that first 6 months or so under Taylor when we were actually good and briefly topped the table, Flowers was a one man team at times.

Wally was a good 'spreader' and very consistent, but not especially talented. Flowers was a better goalkeeper but only for a short spell for us before his injury problems hampered him.

However, the argument over the third member of this club is completely pointless. We had two of the best keepers ever and the choice is a straight one between the two of them. For the simple reason that Banks was a City player when England won the World Cup, it has to be him.

Agreed!

Shilton is not old - late middle aged perhaps.

I never saw Banks live for Leicester but he was clearly quite superb.

With all due respect to Peter Schmeichel, Dino Zoff etc I have to say Shilton was the best goalkeeper I ever saw.

the choice has to be between Banks and Shilton.

I remember some years back Jimmy Greaves did a similar thing, in picking the best ever 11 for the teams in the top flight at the time. He had a proviso that no player could be selected in two sides. He had Banks in the Stoke team and Shilton in the F****t, and went with Wallington for us.

You must have some memory. The last time City, Forest and Stoke were all in the top flight together was the 1984-85 season.

I only remember the goalkeeper debate, I couldn't tell you who else he selected
