HEAD TO HEAD
The two clubs have met 90 times in the past in all competitions, with 85 of those games coming with points at stake. Up on the Lancashire coast, the Foxes have 10 wins and 11 draws from 44 previous clashes.
EARLY MEETINGS
The first ever meeting came at Filbert Street in Division Two back in 1896-97 when Leicester edged home 2-1, though Fosse had already entertained the Seasiders' forerunners, South Shore, in the F A Cup in 1893-94. Fosse's first trip to Blackpool, in February 1897, ended in a 0-3 reverse. In fact, it took seven attempts before victory was achieved by the seaside.
RECENT HISTORY
The last time the clubs faced each other, at the Walkers Stadium on the opening day of the season, Simon Grayson's team ran out 1-0 winners. Our most recent trip to Bloomfield Road was in September 2005, when a Mark de Vries brace earned the Foxes a safe League Cup passage. We have to go all the way back to November 1969 to find our last league visit to Blackpool. That game ended 1-1 with Matthews on the scoresheet: on this occasion it was City's Paul.
BIGGEST WINS
Leicester thrashed Blackpool 6-0 at Filbert Street in 1930-31, with Ernie Hine netting four times. Back in the Fosse era, the club also notched up a 5-1 scoreline on home soil no less than three times.
SEQUENCES
City have only won one of the last eight league clashes between the two clubs, and have not recorded a league victory at Bloomfield Road in any of the last 13 attempts. Our most recent maximum point haul came in September 1937, when Digger Maw scored twice in a 4-2 success.
GOALSCORING HEROES
Hine is not the only four-goal Fox against Blackpool: Fred Osborn also achieved the feat in 1912-13, in one of those 5-1 victories. The season before, Osborn had also collected a home hat-trick off the Tangerines. Osborn and Hine share the status as top club marksmen against Blackpool with 7 apiece, but Ray Charnley comfortably outdoes the pair of them, having netted no less than 13 strikes against City over the years.
DEBUTANTS
28 players have made their Leicester bow against the Seasiders, including Gordon Banks, Ashley Chambers, Frank McLintock, Alan Maybury and Mark de Vries. Six of those debutants came on the opening day of this season: James Chambers, Bruno N'Gotty, Stephen Clemence, Radostin Kishishev, DJ Campbell and Jonathan Hayes.
FOOT IN BOTH CAMPS
Amongst the players to have represented both clubs over the years are Colin Gibson, Simon Grayson, Paul Groves, Phil Horner, Russell Hoult, Carl Muggleton, Ashley Ward, Tommy Wright and Jason Wilcox.
