Brake Lights Stuck On

TB I know I can rely on you

My brake lights are constantly turned on (very dim but still!). When i lift the brake pedal they go off but as soon as I let go the pedal falls down half an inch and the lights go back on.

Is this just a loose pedal ?

Anybody who can sort this out for me wins brownie points.

Its a 97 Fiesta.

There are two possible solutions to this.

1. Remove the brake light bulbs.

2. Jam something under the brake pedal so you can't push it down.

The switch for the lights is above the pedal, right down in the footwell. The best solution is to saw off the pedal just before the switch for a permanent solution. Failing that, you can normally move the switch so that the lights only come on at the right time.
