Good point. Just leave us with Masters, Cummins, Walker and Liddle as bowling options.

Andrew Strauss (capt), Ian Bell, Stuart Broad, Rikki Clarke, Paul Collingwood, Alastair Cook, James Dalrymple, Darren Gough, Steve Harmison, Ed Joyce, Jon Lewis, Sajid Mahmood, Kevin Pietersen, Chris Read, Marcus Trescothick, Michael Yardy.

I've got mixed emotions, great to see a Leicestershire player representing England (Was Maddy the last one?) but its highly likely that we won't be seeing Broad at Grace Road for another decade :(

I'd play
Strauss*
Trescothick
Cook
Pietersen
Yardy
Collingwood
Dalrymple
Read+
Broad
Gough
Harmison

Just for these ODIs he's missing the next 2 championship matches, meaning he'll only be back for the last game which starts on 20th Sept. I reckon he needs 6 more wickets to make it 50 for the season. Given the likely weather then, I don't think he'll make it!

Maddy was the last one. And do you know what? In his last ODI he made his first 50. Says a lot about the selection process!

Scratching my head at the inclusion of Broad at one-day level, he's more effective at county mode. Not unless its the 20/20 what swung it.

The 20/20 proved that he can handle the big occassion, take wickets and bowl economically. Someone said that 20/20 is as close to the test match experience for a county bowler as it gets, seeing as every ball has to be bowled properly.

It's basically a chance for him to get on the Ashes plane though. The selectors are using ODIs as a trial for tests more these days - that's how Strauss proved he can make international runs.

I suppose being the best bowler in the 20/20 wouldn't have hurt his claim. Hes being picked more on potential at the moment but hes got all the attributes to suceed at international level.

Hmm, it seems that Fatty Ormond was the last LCCC player picked for England in this test. http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/63940.html I only checked that up because I saw him bowling on TV, well it was a replay of a game from last year. He not only eats a lot of pies but bowls them as well.

When Ormond was coming through at Leics he was also being touted as the next great England bowler. Maybe not as much and as young as Broad has, but maybe we should not expect too much of him too soon.

He wasn't at his best, thought he got his length right but could have bowled a bit straighter.

Still, he was our best bowler and picked up two decent wickets. That onslaught from Afridi in one over ruined his figures a bit.

I thought he did excellently, the Afridi over aside. But that's what Afridi does - it doesn't matter whether it's a good or bad delivery. The contrast between his bowling and Mahmood's was immense. Mahmood bowled like he did against Sri Lanka - no game plan, no accuracy.

The reason England lost this game was the lack of nows about building a Twenty20 innings. The difference between their innings and a 'typical' Leics innings was clear. Leics wouldn't have panicked after losing Bell and KP, they would have consolidated and picked up the pace for an onslaught in the last 6 overs. Every member of the side knows the gameplan to perfection.

England never got going and you could barely see them hit a boundary after the first few overs.

When it comes to the Twenty20 World Cup, England would have a good chance of winning - their players have played more games than anyone else after all. But you'd have to pick one or two Twenty20 specialists in the side, such as Maddy or Ramprakash, to build the innings.

On the other hand, I might back Pakistan for the proper World Cup. They have a very good side.

We're going to lose 5-0 again unless someone has a blinder :(

Batting wise, we have too many 'nurdlers', its ok having a few in your batting line up but Bell, Strauss, Yardy, Dalrymple and Collingwood are all that sort of player. They're good to have in the side but they aren't going to win matches like Pietersen might. I think opening with Bell will turn out to be a big mistake! We need a 6 hitter.

Bowling wise, I don't think its too bad but I can't really see us taking that many wickets, the two spinners and Colly are defensive bowlers at best while Gough only seems to be good at the end of an innings and I don't think Broad is that penetrative as yet. That would leave hit-or-miss Mahmood to take the majority of wickets!

Broad had far more idea than Sajid Mahmood, who imo looked like me in bat..........frightened to death. Another poor batting display by England and on this evidence we really do deserve our ranking of 8th best.
Sadly it looks like we will only be in the world cup to make the numbers up.:icon_sad:
