Buying domain names

Heart Internet will only give you free hosting if you transfer your domain to them. Presumably they do this so you have to pay them when the domain needs renewing.
I don't usually recommend using the same company to look after your domains as your hosting, it can cause problems, but if it's the only way to get decent free hosting you may have no choice. The Heart Internet site gives you details how you can transfer the domain from 123-reg.

Moving UK domains from 123-reg to Heart Internet:-

1. Log-in to your 123-reg members area
2. Select to Modify the domain you want to move
3. In the Domain Control Panel select 'Change IPS Tag'
4. Enter HEARTINTERNET as the new IPS Tag
5. After 24 hours log-in to your Heart Internet Control Panel
6. Select Domain Transfer
7. Enter the domain you want to transfer to Heart Internet and Checkout

It's free to transfer UK domains, you'll just have to pay their normal renewal fee in a couple of years, which is about £6.

Once you have the hosting set up you should receive ftp login details to upload the site, or there may be an online file manager you can use instead.

You should wait until 123-reg have changed the IPS tag. How long you need to wait depends on how long it takes 123-reg to change it.

Use the whois lookup at Nominet.org.uk to see what the tag says, and when it's been changed to HEARTINTERNET you should be safe to do the transfer.

It will come from Heart Internet, either they'll email it to you or it will be in their control panel somewhere. I'm sure B155 will be able to tell you as he uses them.

You will get given in an email normally. Or you can log into your account, goto the control panel I think and set up ftp users there. There is also an alright web uploader if you don't have too many files. Not used the free interface before, I just access everything through my reseller bit.

There is no actual 'control panel' on heart. just 3 rows x 5 columns of icons. Which one do I pick.
