We must if we stand any chance of going up get a decent 20 goals a year striker on board asap.Buying untried boys from Scotland will be hit and miss. The board must "speculate to acccumulate" otherwise its same as last season.
De Vries is pants 10 goals at most im sorry to say anothe Ian Ormonroyd in the making i fear.

Lets hope im wrong up the City?

Anyone heard on the grapevine of any strikers on the way in?

This no news anywhere about City. :? :-(

a little worried about our short sighted actions on the transfer market. scotland as we know produces some pretty poor football and im sure that only buying players from the SPL will not be the answer. however im ready to stick by CL's decisions. However you are correct we really do need a 20 goal a season striker and seeming as we havn't got a chance of buying one from scotland and our lack of interest in other leagues we may im afraid, fail in this area, AGAIN.

i'm willing to put my neck on the line here and say that connolly will get 15-20 goals this season

He might, although I doubt it,but we need someone else to weigh in with 20 odd and I don't think MDV or Dublin are capable of that.It is essential that we get a Goalscorer in IMO.

I HOPE CL is working on it. In fact I know he isn’t stupid, he knows better than we do that we drew 20 matches last season and missed more goal scoring opportunities than I can remember and I HOPE we can be sure he is ambitious, so he must be trying to put some deal together somewhere.

Do you know what I hate about football? I hate Effing HOPE. It’s always there, every match, home or away. I HOPE and the poorer the results, the more I effing HOPE.

I HOPE that so-and-so will play better next time or no matter how well we play, win or loss, I HOPE we score more goals in the next match or I HOPE that the manager will play a certain player in a different position. Alternatively I HOPE the manager will never play some players again. I HOPE they aren’t injured. HOPE we don’t go down. I HOPE forest do. I just keep effing HOPING

Come the end of the season and there is always that new HOPE. New effing HOPE? Can you believe it? Do I need new HOPE? I have enough HOPE to sink a battle ship; I don’t need new HOPE. But. Season after season, I scan the news looking for new HOPE. I HOPE the new manager has more brains than the previous few and HOPE he will sign better players than we had last season. HOPING that we will do better next season, and why will we do better; because, I HOPE the new Hopefuls will perform better this season, and I HOPE the referees won’t be so shity.

What I contemplate is. ‘If we where as successful as I HOPE we will be then I would have little to HOPE for and I would become HOPELESS

So, I conclude, I HOPE to be HOPELESS

a good manager makes players excel, the end of last season we seen the team improve in the way they play and pass, I think craig will improve connoly's goal record and we will see 15+ goals from him this season. Da Vries I think will be 5-10 goals.

Bob Hope  :-D

5-10 goals is not good enough in this league. look at wigan thats the type of goalscoring we need. not 15 and 5-10

we have to be realistic that there aren't many 20+ goalscorers in england at any level, so to be getting that much we have to start looking abroad and even then the finances may cause a problem. unless some money comes from somewhere we will be looking at playoffs at best. i still think the major problem with goals not being scored comes from last years midfield performance, people didnt score or even get forward for most of the season

i agree to a certain extent and the fact that Wigan went up was mostly based on the fact that their strikers were scoring. They will be straight back next season. They arent that good as a team.

We need a 20+ striker but we also need to build a strong team and i think CL is going about it the right way so far. I think connelly has it in him with the right partner to bring it out of him.

is that what the call him in the ghetto

I think any proven 20-goal-a-season striker at this level would be too much for us to sign. There will be an element of hope in any other striikers CL brings in IMO.

I have to say I don't agree that CL has been short-sighted by signing from Scotland, it's what he knows best after all - MON had worked at Wycome and tracked players like Elliot, Izzet and Lennon from his experience, let's hope CL is doing the same. Hughes, Maybury and McCarthy have all been great signings for Leicester City and de Vries was amazing at Charlton; a fresh start from him, clean slate and full bill of fitness could prove the difference there.

We do need a bigger squad, but personally the signings of Douglas and Sylla are strong ones for our club. Like it or not people, this is as good as it gets for a while. If CL gets the best out of certain players, then we will be strong next year, no doubt about it.

Totally agree mate, top post Alex !

Lets just hope the fans allow him to make that fresh start instead of getting on his back immediately. IMO his treatment from most city fans has been awful and they should hang their heads in shame. Always support a player who is wearing your colours and badge.

Totally agree MDV should be given a chance but unfortunately there are always going to be 'Supporters' who like to slate a certain player be it MDV,Jordan,Heath whoever they like nothing better than a Witchhunt.Personally I really don't see what is to be gained by booing a Player it certainly won't make him play better.I can't see MDV scoring 20 odd goals next season but I can see setting up a lot for whoever is up there along side him.I still believe he is the type of player who will 'play for the shirt' and deserves at least 10 games when he is fully fit to show what he can do before we can 'pass sentence'.

I think people are expecting too much, I would be delighted if we got 15+ goals from main striker and 5+ from the secondary strikers. If we dont get promoted this season so what? What I expect this season is a team building season this is craig's first full season, I would expect us to finish between 5th and 12th.

I can see it coming we finish 7th and Craig leaves because fans demand promotion 2 years after we were in admin, people need to be realistic there is no money for proven strikers and the way we will get 20 goal striker is by Craig improving what we have.

I don't expect Promotion this season and I for one won't be calling for CL's head if we don't acheive it,indeed I was the first person on here to 'flag' his name up (as Steven will confirm). However we evidently have a problem in the goalscoring department and to continue the building of the side I feel we either need to get in a Striker be it on a free of for a small amount of money or start to bring Dodds or O'Grady into the side.I might be wrong but with our current strikers ,who I by no means I feel are bad players,we aren't going to score enough goals be it this season or next.Doesn't have to be a proven Striker but CL might have to take a risk with a up and coming lower League one.We don't need the next Rooney just someone to put the ball in the net.
