Can Pearson take us up?

Views? IMO yes as champions after two great loan deals.

No one is more likely than Pearson to achieve promotion.

But to me the top of the division is likely to remain very competitive. I don't think that there are any outstanding teams nor any with that much quality that would equip them for a comfortable time in the Premier League.

We've got as good a chance as anyone but like everyone else have deficits - i.e. lack of squad depth & difficulties in converting chances into goals. It will probably come down to avoiding too many injuries to the better players and getting a bit of luck.

I think that's a good assessment of the division Redditch. Good post.

I think he can get us up but I would seriously fear a humiliating season in the top division with him in charge.

I don't watch anything like the games that I used to do - so I feel less able to make firm judgements/ guesses but I think you are spot on. That said, I doubt if anyone else could shape this squad into a viable Premier League outfit so it would need a lot of money and a lot of persuasion to bring in the sort of players that would make sufficient difference. Reading and Southampton looked good last year - and out of their depth this year. West Ham have a bit more about them as a club and a battle hardened manager who knows how to get by with limited quality - i.e. route 1 football making Andy Carroll a useful asset.

I suspect( but don't know) that Pearson isn't a Premier League quality manager - but the only financially viable option is to try to get promotion and hope for the best.

I see every home game and i just dont think we will be able to do with this squad ,we badly need someone that can take the chances we make ,not just one but maybe two most of the sides close to us on points are scoring the goals i feel we need two wingers and strikers and i just dont see that happening this season but ill carry on watching the team ,and hope .

If you only see home games, surely you would be"cock o hoop" so to speak.
6 wins out of 7, I would have thought would be basis for most to be a little bit optimistic about our chances this season.

I also think we would struggle in the play-offs to be honest.

Not entirely convinced we have the bottle for the fight, similar to Cardiff over the last few years.

I think we'll be top six and I would fancy our chances in the play offs as NP seems very good at "not losing".

I think his downfall might be an inability to attract established players. His track record is littered with up and coming players, with very few proven top quality players. When you get the the top division you need a little more than that at times to mix it up and hold everything together.

Let's hope he can get his players to take decent penalties this time then. Although It might not be enough to have the negative approach of trying 'not to lose' in the play-offs.

We'll be promoted by Christmas if 'arry codchops is manager

Which two great loan deals are you referring to?

Two loan deals that have not yet happened or the two loan deals we made yesterday? If you are talking about the latter then what, at this stage, makes either a great loan deal?

Fitz-rather hoping nige"s last outing will be just after xmas.It would be appropriate.ying/yang and all that karma stuff.

First of all, I said we would finish 4th which was met by laughter from DD, ex of TB.

Tbf Lako every manager coming up from the Championship to the Premiership is on a hiding to nothing. Their position is made even harder when you have heavy financial backing. Every promoted team needs strengthing yet they can not compete against the financial deals that the likes of Wigan can offer due to their runs in the top flight. So there are two routes; buy abroad or buy from the lower leagues to strength.

Southampton have bought from abroad and it's failing them bad. Norwich bought from the lower leagues and it's treating them well. So given Pearson's preference to buy from the best of the lower leagues I would say it is far too easy to write him off because of his supposed reptuation.
