This sounds promising :-

The only new signings absent were Iranian international Hossein Kaebi, on Asian Cup duty, and striker Carl Cort, described by Allen as “not ready”, being behind in his pre-season preparations.

Wonder how many times we will hear about Cort not being ready?

Injured all ready??!! Well I never imagined that happening at all....... :icon_roll

Can we open a vBookie Event on how many games Carl Cort will play for us next season?? :102:

It doesn't say he was injured? Just that he wasn't ready to play yet? If he hardly played last season and has just come back from knee surgery ( I think it was his knee anyway) then MA is right to not rush him back.

No point in risking anything IMO.

I always look on these type of matches as pointless.

I didn't realise that, and you are spot on. We don't want him brought back too soon, look what happened to Fryatt last season and he has almost been crucified for it!!

As opposed to someone else's knee?

I took him on during the end of the season 2007/8 in the championship manager game my son had running which he had started (from 2003/4 onwards I think) and then as the next season was starting Cort announced he was "RETIRING" at the end of the season!!!!!
So does championship manager game know something that MA doesn't?

Sensible caution. I am certain Carl Cort would want to be fighting for a first team place, if for no other reason than part of his contract is probably first team appearance related.
Muzzy blamed his early retirement on Bruce forcing him to play before his knee had recovered properly.

What this shows is that Allen wants the guys working their balls off next season, and if the players aren't 100% fit then whats the point in them being played?

Cort will have done extra training and I am sure we will see him in action soon - afterall, we have got another 8 pre-season games to come!

Didn't know that about Muzzy. Must be difficult for managers to know when to bring players back though - you can be taken for a ride by those who 'swing the lead' if you're not careful. Clearly, Muzzy was never like that - a 100% effort, 100% genuine guy but managers must get a bit hardened by seeing loads of skivers in their time. There are probably loads of examples of players getting time off (if not from matches then certainly from training) when their injury was actually not as bad as they say.

Went to the Leicester Riders vs Derby game a couple (!)of years ago. Lilly came limping in with his bird in tow. A bit of friendly abuse/banter got aimed at him..when he quickly left near the end, his limp had disappeared!

He also missed the scrap with the players.:038:

I can remember seeing Wesolowski dancing like a madman in Mosh when he had summat up with his leg.

Everything tells me that this is going to rank amongst the most ludicrous signings that the club has made in recent years - and there have been plenty of mistakes.

Cort goes from club to club on the basis of great potential ' if only he could stay fit'.

It might happen I suppose but the odds must be that it won't.

Ive said it before and I'll say it again, dont use football manager as ur football crystal ball, on one of my old games Jordan Stewart ended up playing left wing for England!!!!

me too. but putting a hairline fracture through 90 minutes of heavy exercise is very different to having a dance while on a night out (different pressures on the injury)
