England captain John Terry has been taken to hospital after receiving a sickening blow to the head during the Carling Cup final.
The Chelsea defender was accidentally kicked in the face by Arsenal's Abou Diaby as he tried to head the ball inside the Gunners penalty area.
The injury happened after 56 minutes of the final with the score at 1-1.
Medical staff from both clubs helped put Terry in a neck brace and he was carried off with an oxygen mask.
Fans of both teams at the Millennium Stadium, who had been hushed as Terry lay very still in the wake of the blow to his head, applauded the England skipper from the field.
There was blood on Terry's face as soon as the incident happened and he seemed to be possibly unconscious at first, although before leaving the field it looked as though he was responding to questions.
Terry had only just recovered from damaged ankle ligaments, which he suffered in the Champions League tie at Porto, to play in the final.
