"Old sins cast long shadows." Although Don Revie is long since dead he is still revered at Leeds. That means that Leeds fans have to justify his methods.
This was not merely the harrassment of referees which Revie perfected or the feigning of injury which was not then common.
It means on at least two occasions attempts to bribe opposing sides - Bob Stokoes Bury and Bill Mcgarry's Wolves. Those were two ioccasions when it failed. Obviously where people colluded with Revie they kept quiet about it.
When Brian Clough told David Frost that he did not like Revie and if he said why they would take the programme off the air it seems he was referring to the tag end of a conversation he heard between Revie and a referee which convinced him the referee had been bought.
Other teams of that period have a great legacy Shankley's Liverpool, Busby's Man U, Clough's Derby. They are remembered with affection aolthough they had their hard men - Tommy Smith, Nobby Styles Dave Mackay. Revie's team was as talented as those but few outside Leeds remember them with affection. They left a legacy of poison.
