I think it should at least give us something to aim for, after Arsenal’s result today. Without Sanchez they really don’t have many top drawer players. I’d hope we had an aim like that in our heads even if it doesn’t come off, rather than doing a Pulis from mid Feb.

Had we not choked on the first day of the season, we'd be two points behind them (now with no game in hand).

That's speculation rather than a fact.

If we'd beaten them in the first game, we might have been more confident at the start of the season, won more points and be up there challenging Manchester City.

Or the other results could have been the same, but we wouldn't have sacked Shakespeare when we did, he might still be in charge, but we could be lower in the table than we are now.

I'm not sure Mahrez dived, but also not a penalty, when players make contact one or two can fall over, that is the nature of the game, there may be no foul and no dive, no clammer for penalties or yellow and red cards.
It is undoubtedly more difficult for referees today, but I'm not sure even a video review would have come to any other decision than the one the referee made.
I also think the sending off, due to two dubious yellow cards was a mistake. Maybe I'm looking through fox tinted specs, but we just have to accept it and move on.
Still a very good result, another clean sheet, onwards and upwards, Burnley are now in our sights.

Think Arsenal are catchable now. They are falling to bits and likely to lose their “best” player and spend the rest of the season braying for Wenger to leave. Depending on whether Riyad sticks around we can get them.

Such a shame we had an absolute chancer in charge for three months. What a terrible, terrible, appointment Shakey was.

I don’t envy the job of referees - to assess that in a split second, very difficult. The sooner VAR is in all games the better. It was good to see that not every incident in the box is a penalty or simulation - sometimes players colliding is just that, a collision.
