I have to say though. The way we started that game both in our shape and approach was appalling.

We play two holding midfielders which invites them on to us. Further it places our two best creative players out of position. Maddison functioned as a left winger and I couldn’t figure out where Youri was supposed to be.

I just don’t think there is room in this side for all four of Youri, Maddison, Wilf and Hamza. And that’s before we even bring in Praet (who looked tidy).

It looks to me like Rodgers is trying to turn Maddison into Coutinho in terms of his position and role.

he also barely got forward, because he cannot get up and down all game anymore, which when we play Maddison where he played is something we need from the left back
When Fuchs does get forward he at least makes the right decision and will attempt to cross the ball, Chillwell appears to bottle it which is bloody annoying as he has everything in his locker to reach the very top. If Chillwell can improve his delivery he will be immense.

For me. Soyuncu and Evans showed the starts of a promising partnership
We haver problems downs the left. Ricardo and Tielemans interplay over and over again to get Ricardo space or to free up a good pass inside to a midfielder or Vardy BUT we can't do the same on the left for love nor money. Praet unlocked that when he came on, but not sure whether the answer is that going forward. We will see.
Seems difficulty for Ndidi and Choudhury to routinely play together as they are both specialists in the same position. Against Man City or Liverpool maybe, but not Sheff Utd, Newcastle or Bournemouth.
Maddison obviously better floating behind Vardy, but will need the side built around that axis with balance on left and right delivered by any 3 of Praet, Tielemans, Barnes or Albrighton
Good that we have started working out problems during games and solving them like we did here, but obviously would be better if we start quicker and impose ourselves earlier in matches.

My concern with Praet is that he looked good, but getting him into the team involves keeping Maddison on the left.

I think this is going to be Rodgers' preferred route though, particularly as he didn't get the winger he wanted. Maybe that would've changed his thinking, but I think he's seeing a midfield 5 of Ndidi, Praet, Tielemans, Maddison and Perez as his best route at the minute. I suspect that's what we'll see against Sheff Utd.

May be surprised though - in a perceived easier game maybe he will want more width and go for Albrighton or Barnes.

I think having narrow and wide options is a good way to mix it up long term, we just have to get it right.

It looks like we could have a problem looming.
Too many good players.

Yep. Nice problem to have though!

Praet coming into the team for Hamza may actually make Maddison on the left work better as well.

Barnes and Albrighton waiting in the wings is a nice position to be in. Gray isn't getting near the 18 unless he steps up considerably.

i'd be looking at a sort of 41311 sort of formation, albeit with the midfieled required to be quite fluid.

Schmeichel
Pereira Evans Soyuncu Chilwell
Ndidi
Praet Tielemans Barnes
Maddison
Vardy

This keeps Maddison central behind Vardy
Also has Albrighton and Perez as immediate replacements in multiple positions if it's not working for any of the foremost 4 of the midfield.
Choudhury is like for like for Ndidi or can come on to reinforce if we are protecting a result.

Yep, we've decent players in most positions. We don't seem to agree on who or where though. After reading through all the opinions, if I cobbled together all the negative views of individual players into one review then it'd seem we're a shit team. And we most definately aren't.

We're not a good team yet either though. It's all very promising at times, but I've not seen any evidence in the first two matches to suggest that we can finish higher this year.

There is a lot riding on our next two matches. Two wins and we'll be on our way. But we could very easily mess up. I just can't see enough goals at the moment.

and how many of those crosses produce anything resembling a chance as opposed to being dealt with with no problem what so ever by the defenders, crossing the ball into the box with only Vardy there is ****ing stupid, it just makes people like you feel better but does nothing to help the team

It allows defenders to make errors. It pushes defenders back into their own box. It allows us to win corners, the likes of which we scored from. It opens the game out to the flanks. We are desperately short of width at times and Fuchs provided that as well as defending far better than Chilwell of late. I don't see what your problem with Fuchs is, he's more than capable of putting in a very good shift and he's a much better defender than Chilwell. Okay, a Chilwell at his best is a fantastic proposition and can cause all sorts of problems but he's not been at his best for a long time. He's currently a 1 out of 6 player and we can't afford to have 5 games without a left back who can defend. For me, Fuchs keeps his place.

:042: ****ing hell keep your hair on. It’s possible to deliver the ball from a wide area without hoofing it at someone’s head. Fuchs crossed the ball to Maddison when he shot over the bar, we made two really good chances down the right by crossing the ball for Tielemans and Vardy. Vardy has scored shit loads of goals from crosses in his time here, they’re just not always headers. Chilwell’s default move when faced by an obstacle between him and an attacker is to turn and pass the ball backwards or inside to a midfielder. Do innocuous, tempo killing passes to Ndidi make you feel better?

Sounds like it could be right. And Matty James = Darren Eadie.

Matt Jones, surely. Whereas poor Darren came with his pre-existing chronic injury (at a then club record fee) which brought his career to a premature end, the two Matts suffered their respective, unrelated, double injuries “on active service” so to speak, though Jones did himself the second time when we sent him on loan to Forest, for ... errr ... fitness conditioning.

One hell of a tackle that from Fuchs.

Didn't know he still had it in him! If only he still had that extra yard or two of pace. Showed enough to get in there though!

Surprised he made that tackle considering his legs have gone.
