Blackpool hoping to take Wright for a loan spell
by Gary Sherrard

Blackpool are interested in taking Leicester City striker Tommy Wright on loan.

The 20-year-old, who had two spells at Brentford last season, has made only five Championship appearances off the bench this term, and manager Craig Levein could be willing to send the youngster out elsewhere to get some first-team football.

However, Levein has also indicated that he would not loan the player out until after the FA Cup replay with the Tangerines on Tuesday.

A Blackpool club spokesman said: "Craig Levein has indicated that he will loan him (Tommy Wright) out but only after the FA Cup business is over.''

Wright, who has played at several age-groups for England, has been identified by Levein as one of the four youngsters knocking on the first-team door at the Walkers Stadium - but says there are not enough of his age-group coming through.

In an attempt to rectify that situation, Levein says he will be having a look at some young trialists during the rest of the season.

Bury teenager Colin Kazim-Richards has been training with City this week.

"We realised we do not have an abundance of players pushing for first-team places in the 18-21 age-group," said Levein.

"I think that is an important age band and we do not have that many of them.

"We have seen Colin play a couple of times and now we are having a look at him in training. He's only 18, he hasn't played many games for Bury and he's not ready for the first team, but he could be one for the future.

"There will be a few more like that because we need to boost the younger age-group. We have the four who have been around the first-team squad - Tommy Wright, Stephen Dawson, Alan Sheehan and Richard Stearman - but I would expect eight or nine. You need a strong group in that band who are hungry and desperate to play."

ury Youngster

He could be someone Rob Kelly remembers from his knowledge of the Lancashire scene.
He has played for several clubs but started at Arsenal.
It doesnt say much for our own Academy when we are looking at youngster from the lower divisions!

As Tony Elsby (where is he now :? ) said the Academy should be producing 2 or 3 players a season to step up to the full squad.

If you look at the link at what CL wants, 8 or 9 in the 18-21 group, then the 2 or 3 players is exactly what we should be looking to produce.

This is one area that will improve significantly under CL.

Think Tony Elsby has had to shove his head further up his arse to hide after his 'In a Place called Vertigo' thread prvoed to be a tad optimistic and premature.

when things improve he'll be back with various proclamations and told you so's. In the meantime however, his silence speaks volumes.

Wish she'd pull her pants right down, tease.

That was my thread!

Sorry Elton Welsby's post in a similar vein was "walkin on Sunshine".

Knew it was a song title though.

Like so many english clubs, city does not produce the players of the quality we need or deserve and it is not the clubs fault

Brazil keeps producing a large amount of quality football players because most of the players came from a poor back grounds, they could not afford football boots or proper footballs, so they learn to play football with anything that ressembled a round ball. old tin cans, small tennis balls basically the played with what ever was available.
These small balls are very difficult to control so they had to learn good ball skills and when they start to play with a full size ball, they find it easy to control.

About twenty years ago the french FA introduced a new initiative to improve the quality of football in france, which amoung other things included recommended that very young kids must be taught to play football with little balls, and look at the quality they produce.

The English FA looked at the research done into the Brazilian players and decieded that we can produce equally good players without applying the very small ball concept. Twenty years later there is more foreign players that ever in our teams, we have very few quality players coming through the ranks. Yet we still insist on following the old tried and tested methods for teaching our kids how to play football

Amazing

So none of those clubs rated him then?

I could understand the first two not keeping him but the last named seems a bit worrying, mind he could have been a victim of their financial trouble.Won't hurt to have a look at him,Arsenal have let some decent players go in the past.I think Kelly is going to prove valuable when it comes to our Youth and bringing them through.
