Forth 1 (Scottish Radio Station) are 99.9% sure Levein is coming to us, on a reported wage of 200k a year. Signing in the next few days.

I don't know what to think. Don't know much about him as don't take notice of the scottish pointless league. I wonder if Martin O'Neill had a word about him to the board?

"Craig Levein is to be offered the chance to become Leicester City's manager in succession to Micky Adams. The Hearts manager's decision will rest heavily on a meeting he will have with the Scottish Premierleague club's new owner Vladimir Romanov.
Levein, with a year left on his contract, wants to know whether Romanov is willing to provide the funds to enable him to make a realistic challenge to the dominant position of Rangers and Celtic in the Scottish game. If Levein decides to stay with Hearts, Leicester will make a swift move for Gary Megson, who has just been relieved of his duties as manager of West Bromwich Albion.

However, the 40-year-old Levein has been identified as the No1 target by the Championship side. The former Scotland international has been dubbed the "new Martin O'Neill" in Scotland and accords with Leicester's preference for appointing young, ambitious managers. He has guided Hearts into the Uefa Cup in the past three seasons."

Leicester 'to make Levein move'

Leicester City will make contact with Hearts, with a view to making Craig Levein the club's new manager, BBC Sport understands.
Levein, who has been at Tynecastle since December 2000, refused to be drawn on the subject, dismissing reports as "pure speculation".

And he denied an interview for the position had already been arranged.

Hi guys,
Just popped in to see your views on Craig Levein as your next manager.

I am a season ticket holder at Hearts, and have been for many years. I must say that when Craig Levein played for us he was one of the best players that I ever seen in a Hearts Jersey. His career was stopped short through cruciate knee ligament damage.
He is a true gentleman, and a disciplinarian.

That aside, I personally do not think he is experienced enough as yet to be a top manager. He continually plays players out of position, and sticks bye some of his "favourites" when they should possibly be dropped. I think he is tactically naive, but that said he does have an eye for footballing talent, which he has managed to bring in on the cheap.
He is a very young manager, who turned 40 last week, and although I do not think is superb at Hearts, I think he will go on, with more experience, to be an excellent manager in time.
These thoughts are purely my own, and a great deal of the Hearts support will be gutted if he goes.
Lets just wait and see.

I would be sad to see him go, but it would not be the end of the world.

If he does come to you, I hope he goes on to be a great success.

P.S. THE BLOODY PROCLAIMERS ARE HIBS SUPPORTERS, RIGHT!!!

Good luck guys.

It seems certain Craig Levein has taken charge of Hearts for the last time. He's set to quit the Jambos over the next 24 hours to take over at Leicester City. The English side is today expected to make a formal approach to Hearts for permission to talk to Levein, but I understand a deal has already been thrashed out behind the scenes. Leicester will have to pay around 125 thousand pounds compensation to get their man, speedy negotiations with Hearts could even see Levein in place for Saturday's trip to Cardiff, but it's more likely the move will be concluded over the weekend. We'll have more on this breaking story on Forth News throughout the afternoon.

cheers Bam. sorry about the proclaimers thing!

blimey, he does sound very MAish (apart from the discipline bit)
£125k compo too! that's more than we've spent on a player for about 3 years

Levein set to quit Hearts

Official approach expected today and Craig could be in charge of Foxes by weekend

CRAIG LEVEIN could quit Hearts within the next 24 hours to take over as manager of Leicester City.

The Evening News understands that the Foxes were due to make an official approach for the Gorgie chief today - and could have him installed by the weekend.

The Coca-Cola Championship side are on the look out for a new manager after Micky Adams quit the club earlier this month and regard Levein as the man to steer them back to the promised land of the Premiership.

Former West Brom boss Gary Megson was believed to have been a target but the Hearts boss raced to the top of the Foxes’ three-man short list amid Megson’s financial wrangle with the Baggies following his announcement that he would not be renewing his contract after next summer.

Dave Bassett, Director of Football at the Walkers Stadium, has been acting as caretaker manager since Adams’ departure and is a huge admirer of the manner in which Levein has worked minor miracles in sustaining an impressive league challenge at Tynecastle as well as successive qualifications for Europe despite ongoing savage wage cuts since taking over almost four years ago.

It is understood Levein would regard the Leicester opportunity as too good a chance to pass up, despite the Jambos being locked in the heat of a UEFA Cup battle with Germans Schalke set to visit Murrayfield next Thursday in the second game of Group A.

City, who head to Cardiff on Saturday, face another trip to Crewe on Tuesday, and want their new manager in place as soon as possible - it remains to be seen whether Levein will be at Tynecastle this weekend for the visit of Dundee and he could well have taken charge of his last Hearts match last night as the Jambos drew 1-1 with Dundee United at Tannadice.

With the Gorgie chief’s contract still having another 20 months to run, the Foxes will have to dig deep for compensation to land their man.

Levein is due to meet prospective new Hearts owner Vladmir Romanov tonight for showdown talks over the Lithuanian banker’s vision for the future of the club and Levein’s desire to remain at the Tynecastle helm may hinge on the outcome of the "informal" discussions.

It is believed Romanov wishes to appoint Anatoly Byshovets as the club’s new director of football and Levein is concerned his position could be undermined by the arrival of the veteran coach.

Meanwhile, amid the mounting speculation surrounding Levein’s future, Andy Webster has pleaded with him to stay at the club.

The 22-year-old was one of Levein’s first signings when plucked from Arbroath three-and-a-half years ago and believes his manager’s achievements in securing and maintaining Hearts’ status as the third force in Scotland have not always been fully appreciated.

Webster, who has blossomed into a Scotland internationalist under the guidance of Levein, said: "At the moment all the players are hearing is rumours and we have to treat it as speculation.

"Obviously, there are meant to be new people coming into the club to take over and that’s not something we’ve experienced before. But our job is to get on with the job of winning football matches and we have to put the off-field stuff out of our heads.

"People come and go, whether it’s players coming to the end of contracts or whatever but the manager is a very important person.

"I think the manager has proved himself over the years and had real success here but I don’t think he has been given the full credit he deserves.

"He has had to make so many cuts since coming in. When I signed we had guys like Gordon Durie and Gordan Petric here, players with real pedigree, and he’s had to let them go and bring in lesser known players.

"I fall into that category myself but he’s been great for me. I’ve Scotland caps now and although I like to think some of that is down to me, the manager has been a huge influence.

"He’s been successful so I suppose it’s only natural he’ll be linked with other jobs but we want him to stay."

Levein insisted he had heard nothing from Leicester and was looking forward instead to his meeting with Romanov. He was adamant their appointment would be an informal affair but admitted he would have questions regarding the businessman’s plans for the club - not least the role Byshovets might play.

He said: "I think this meeting is something we need. I’ve questions I would like to ask him and I’m sure he has questions he wants to put to me.

"It’s basically an informal chat but I think it is necessary. If there is to be a change to the set-up of the club regarding the backroom staff I need to find out how it is going to work.

"I’m sure we’ll have plenty to discuss but as for any interest from Leicester I haven’t heard anything beyond the reports which are doing the rounds.

"I’ve not been offered anything and I’m just treating it as speculation. As a player I was linked with half a dozen clubs yet was still here after 14 years so I will just treat it in the same way."

Romanov was not directly available for interview after last night’s game but a formal statement was issued on his behalf. It said: "Mr Romanov was delighted to be in a position to combine watching Hearts play Dundee United with a series of business meetings he has in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

"Mr Romanov will be meeting Craig Levein and looks forward to hearing his views on football in general and the continued impact Hearts can have on the SPL."
