I reckon that we could be one of the two Championship clubs that have made a bid. He tore us to shreds in the second half at London Road. Technically a very good player, although misses quite a few chances. Full of pace with a never say die attitude. Value - around £ 1.25m.

I like speculation. I'm not interested in signatures. The thing about speculation is that it is far more interesting than any of the actual signings we are likely to make.

The thing I most like about the speculation surrounding the Mackail-Smith saga is the not knowing. It doesn't get much more exciting than this. No, trust me. It doesn't.

An unnamed Championship club today made an approach for an unnamed player, possibly a winger or a centre-half, or perhaps a goalkeeper, but his current club, also unnamed, are believed to have either rejected or accepted the offer, or maybe asked for some time to consider it. The bid is believed to have been in the £0-£7.5m range, but his manager is reported to have said he wouldn't accept less than £15m. This cannot be confirmed because we do not know who that manager is. The player, believed to be either 19 or 37, or somewhere in between, is possibly a Northern Ireland international or a former or current Scottish under-21, although it's equally possible I made this whole thing up just for something to do.

Player speculation is like the shark in Jaws (and to a lesser degree jaws 2: the revenge), its better when hinted at, discussed but not seen, shadowy.

Then the day comes when they parade a shit looking remote control shark made of paper mache and plastic bags around the pitch at the Walkers in all it's glory (carrying around a replica shirt), and we realize the thing we've been so agitated/excited about was far more exciting in our imagination than reality.
